Nice bit of Checkpoint rarity here, in as-found condition.
I believe these were HPI Uno (Masami) based builds with the slot modular endbell conversion, subsequently leading to the more common Platinum Series Checkpoints which also had the trademark slot brushes.
Very pleased to be adding this to my collection.

So this bad boy got sent off to motor guru Glyn Ward for a full strip and rebuild. He skimmed the comm for starters and checked the magnets. The magnets were spot on, and he told me he expected this to be the case as they are early sintered ferrite and obviously not the later wet magnet version. The can also seemed slightly thicker than those I have seen before, and only has one set of motor screw holes (as opposed to the later two holes). The armature is a 23mm.
Light over the skim is slightly deceiving as it looks a little wedge shaped (it isn't). Plenty of life left on that comm considering the age of this.

Glyn tested original Checkpoint slot brushes and also some Trinity examples I had, with the Trinity ones yielding slightly better results. The inductance meter actually showed the lowest value he had ever seen for a 20turn armature, so he was expecting it to perform well. The original brushes had certainly put a shift in!
Final results on the Shinwa are as follows:-
