Exercise in frustration

I don't know that I'd call any of it skill. But considering how bad this reproduction body was warped, I'm amazed that it turned out this well.
You might notice that the front body pin is at the bellcrank, like the Worlds car. This was done to pull the body straight. I also had to place extra decal material under the body to keep the chassis from rubbing the paint.
Luckily, it isn't designed to be a runner.

Its a Boki body, from ebay. First (and probably only) body I've gotten from them.
I guess there's a good reason that TBG bodies cost twice as much and take 4X as long to get.

Well, it certainly looks good in the photo.
What paint color did you go with -- it looks very close to box-art color.

Its Tamiya camel yellow, full can. Then backed in silver.
Since the car is nowhere near original, I deviated some. The rollbar is gunmetal instead of black and I used less decals.

Ah ha, once again, it's the backing color that makes the difference.
I did mine in Camel yellow but I backed it with white and now it looks too orange.
I should have backed it with silver.
I know nothing about these Boki bodies but based upon your description, I might want to pick one up to use on a runner car. My runners tend to get beat up so I really don't need anything perfect, just cheap.
By the way, you seem to do a good job selecting paint, could I ask you for a paint color recommendation to replicate Masami's '91 Stealth car?
I have the decal sheet from MCI so I just need to find the right green color to go with it.

It's too bad that the body was so warped. I was almost ready to order a couple original style Protech bodies from them.
I got a Boki body for one of my Losi XXs and it was pretty good. Not too short, reasonable thickness and no major flaws.
I would message Boki and see how they are about resolving problems.
Anyone can make a mistake but how they resolve them is way more important.
Just my 2cents.
But it does look good!

I get lucky sometimes. And I have a box full of lexan scraps to experiment on.
From what I gathered, it was a custom color. Some airbrush guys have been able to get close by mixing colors.
If you want spray can, I can only recommend experimenting on scrap lexan. Maybe try Spaz Stix green pearl with different backing colors. And remember that heavier or lighter coated base colors will change the overall finish as well.

Its possible that this is due to imperfections of the original. Even the description says something about the original having some twist and contacting at the side pods. This is my first experience with a Protech 1 body of any brand.
They state that they made efforts to correct and minimize it, but I'd say that the one I got was a fail. To get it straight, the body is tight against the chassis all down the sides. If you tried to attack the body in the front, it wanted to bow up.

Anyway, I couldn't help noticing this:
You probably could have gotten a refund but if you're like me, I get impatient to finish a project and just resign to live with a few imperfections rather than wait for a replacement.
Is fletch2048 the seller on ebay?
By chance, have you ever gotten anything from Penguin and, if so, what do you think?
I've gotten a few his vintage RC10 bodies and was maybe a little bit disappointed. I think they're okay given the price but probably not concourse worthy imho.

Honestly, I thought that I had screwed up somewhere. By the time I figured out what was going on, I had already cut it up pretty good. Being that, I didn't even contact the seller.
On the sell, yes.
I haven't tried Penguin bodies. The rest of my RC10 buggies have JConcepts or Sabula Tech bodies on them. I also have TBG bodies on other cars and like them well.

To your credit, the images from Boki's site shows the Protech body setting dead flat on the table. No warpage.
So perhaps the main takeaway here is if you receive a body from Boki and it doesn't set flat, you might want to contact them immediately.
Since your new to Penguin, here's a couple discussion threads - there are probably many more but these came to mind. Maybe you've already seen these? Anyway, the main issues are that they are a bit short and they contain a plethora of vent hole
dimples.
For me, the dimples alone relegates them to runner car duties.

Most of my repop bodies come from TBG, but I also have a few from Sabulatech (which were perfect) and one from Marwan which was also perfect but took 4 months to arrive.
With TBG, if you can accept that the body will be a bit smaller than the original, their quality is outstanding. However, if I'm building a nice car for the shelf, I go to Sabula first - no issues whatsoever and shipping is FAST.
Anyway, I'm gonna shut up now because all this discussion over failed Boki bodies might suggest to someone that your RC10 doesn't look awesome - which it actually does.

It looked fine on the table. The problem is that the chassis is against the body well before the front or rear are in place. I would have had to raise the body way up to get it off the chassis, at which point it would have looked completely ridiculous.
At this point, it is what it is.
This isn't my favorite RC10 look by any means. But I had a short arm car that needed a body and it made sense.
In hindsight, I probably should have bought a JConcepts Protector and a vintage wing. Having one on another car, I'm pretty sure that the vintage decals would still look right.

Funny i should notice this post after i went to some painting frustrations myself yesterday friday...and to top it off my choice of color for the body was camel yellow as well!
glad im not alone!
