Hey guys as you may already know dirk has produced a very well presented mm conversion kit for the Schumacher cougar.
I was lucky enough to pick up number 10 of 10 in the first batch and here’s the build of it

The packaging is very well done, with a cool touch of a personalised name and kit number on the inside of the box lid and the box itself has a magnetic front lip on the lid

Manual looks well laid out and clear with some humour here and there.

So here we go bag A chassis, side pods and front top support bracket.
The3d printed plastic feels a lot like injection moulded to screw into, maybe a little bit chalky but definitely no problems to screw into The hand sign and numbered engraving is a cool touch although some might not like it.

Bag B is the front bottom plate shock tower and ball raced steering set.
This bag has the first use of donor parts from a cougar mk1 c2 or club 10 part is the t342 steering bushings. The ballraced steering is vey smooth with zero play just make sure you don’t over tighten the screws. A couple of drops of lock tite and a little elbow grease and on to bag c

And the car is...

Bag C is the rear suspension arms bulkhead and shock tower.
More donor parts required here. Arms, pivot pins, pivot blocks and rear bulkhead.
Rear arms are a breeze to install, although I think the optional alloy pivot block mount will definitely be going on as I don’t think the printed part will last too long the way I drive There a little bit off work to do to install the rear bulkhead, the battery housing on the bottom of the bulkhead needs a small notch each side to clear the rear bumper, and you need to drill out the shock tower holes to take the 3mm fixing screws. I’ve used what I call a mk1.2 rear bulkhead, it is the later version of the topcat- cougar mk1 bulkhead u237 that was a running change- they changed the shape to allow for saddle packs and battery brace, but hopefully I’ll find a mk2 u1187 or works bulkhead same part number u1187 but with a 7th camber link-to swap in later on, only hardware I’ve had to supply myself so far is the 4 washers on the shock tower screws and that’s more for my piece of mind.

This is where most donor parts are supplied by yourself
Chassis is designed to take the original cougar / topcat / c2 tranny but if your willing to drill the chassis I can’t see why the works box wouldn’t fit.

But the works box won’t help if your wanting to run the buggy as it lifts the CG of the layshalft and would move the drive shaft angle forward and increase the angle rather than decrease it which was what the work box is supposed to do for the rear mounted layout.

Heres my transmission built using the pro trans and alloy eccentrics
Now at this point I’ve had to take a step backwards to instal the gearbox, I removed the rear bulkhead from the previous step. You could probably squeeze the box past the bulkhead but it was only 2 screws so off it goes Installed and back together, nice touch was all new screws are supplied for the gearbox including the small eccentric screws.

Alrighty getting close to a slider now front and rear ends to sort out now

Using mk1 cougar front arms, steering knuckles and caster blocks. Ordered 45mm turnbuckles same as I used on all my c2 buggies but unfortunately I think 39mm will be better, so I’ve got more on order Went for the gold Schumacher turnbuckles to match the shock shafts I’ll be using. At this stage I’m using the standard single bearing front end but will get changed out at some stage.
Rear end using topcat rere rear arms shotgun/C2 rear hubs, I’d ordered 35 mm turnbuckles for the rear but they were too long using the mk1.2 rear bulkhead and shotgun hubs so 25mm gold turnbuckles are now on order, in the mean time I had a set of purple 25mm that I’ve put on for now.

I wonder what shocks you will choose

Finally got some parts and some time to do a bit more on this project.

I’ve gone with s-works big bore shocks off a s12-m, mainly because I have a couple of sets spare.

Running a hobbywing xr10 pro esc and 10.5 v10 hobbywing motor ( local indoor club has a 10.5 Blinky limit). Savox black edition sc1251-mg servo.

Proline hexion rears and proline prism fronts as a starting point for an Astro indoor surface.

Just the body to paint and it’s ready to rock

Finally got a body painted any high down force wing sorted.
Going to get its first run this weekend coming, it’ll be interesting to see how it goes against the modern buggies at the local indoor track.

That's a wicked looking buggy. The body finishes it off nicely. Happy hunting on the track with it!

Just a quick up date on the mid, I’ve managed to get a couple of race meeting in since building it and I’ve got to say I’m really impressed with it so far. I hadn’t raced a buggy in nearly 5 years so the first meeting was a bit of a steep learning curve for sure.

A few minor tweaks and it was really fun to drive. Second meeting I manage to qualify 4th in the b main (8 car finals) and time wise only just missed out on the A. Unfortunately I popped a steering arm on the second lap and lost nearly 2 laps by the time it was back on.

It’s quite funny to watch guys come up after a heat and ask WTF is that your driving and how the hell did you put qualify me with it.

After the last meeting I’ve managed to retro fit a front wing mount off a l1/ evo and replaced the outside steering ball joints with captive versions, so hopefully no more popping ball cups

Very cool mate!! Especially the peoples responses!
But great to see you are having fun with the kit, and proof people all new stuff does not make a huge difference.
