Tamiya M06 - Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
I needed a track tool, and wanted it to be 2WD, rear driven, and Tamiya to be able to participate to Tamiya TETC as one of the club is organizing an event. And body wise, It would be either an Alpine or an Alfa. The first one was no longer available, it is then the second one…
This will be my first M-Chassis
I have an indoor track session targeted on January 2nd 2022, it is less than one week away, so let’s start this.
1 – differential assembly
Fairly easy step done
2 – begin the gearbox assembly. This one seems far more complex to build than many I had to build before
As matter of fact, at this step we just enclose the differential
3 – Next is to prepare the gear box for the gearing assembly
Make sure you use the right screw in the right place… Some of the metric screws need grease.
4 – Attaching gears
And yes, it will be full ball raced
5 – attaching rear arms to the rear chassis part
Fairly simple, but that is the first time I see arms in two parts, and that’s odd…
6 – Next is to assemble the gearbox onto the rear chassis
On this step I note that there is the possibility to add sway bar, the mounts are provisioned
7 – attaching pinion gear
There is a cap to make sure the pinion is rightly positioned
8 – Attaching the motor
9 – attaching the center section of the chassis
The parts used depends on the wheelbase chosen. In my case it will be 225mm, so M (Possibilities are S 210 mm or L 239mm)
Metal Part Bag A is over. Time to open bag B

Re: Tamiya M06 - Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
10 – Attaching rear upper arms
Those will allow for camber adjustment (on this picture, you may spot a mistake that I discovered later on)
11 – Attaching rear axles
12 – Attaching rear damper stay
It’s quite flexible, probably to replace when going for oil dampers
13 – Front arms
14 – Attaching Front Arms
Again there is provision for sway bars…
15 – Attaching steering linkage
Steering is ball raced
16 – Front axles
17 – Attaching front axles
18 – Attaching the front bumper
Metal part bag B is over, time to open bag C

Re: Tamiya M06 - Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
19 to 22 – rear and front fiction shocks
Only distinction between rear and front is the spring stronger on the rear end
23 – setting electronics (no pictures)
24 – Attaching steering servo
25 – Installing the Radio
(skip 26 and 27 which were about wheels)
28 and 29 – Battery holder
Next will be about wheels and body post, but it will be for another day… And body shell as well

Re: Tamiya M06 - Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
First element I started today was about wheels. I’ve not glued them. I may change them later on, as I’m not very happy with the inserts…
Once wheels were mounted on the car, I did set the ESC, and did set the trims and steering end point. Not sure those tires will require to be glued until I decide to change the motor by a 17.5T brushless…
Next was the body mounts…
The body shell was trimmed and it’s perfect.
Next : masking and paint tomorrow…

Re: Tamiya M06 - Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
I started by a quadrifoglio. It’s a must.
Then a serpent, another must…
And decided there will be a some stripes to remind Italian flag…
I did scratch my head for the side, and decided to avoid doing too much, and just added a smaller serpent on the doors… This will be completed with number plates in Vinyl
Paint is for tomorrow...

Re: Tamiya M06 - Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
Another day, another step…
First metallic red (PS-15), which I backed with white (PS-1)
I then removed the masks for the green
And I applied metallic green (PS-17)
Then I removed the masks for the white, did a bit of correction and applied pearl white (PS-57) backed white (PS-1), bright silver (PS-41) et and finalized with black (PS-5)
Time to remove the windows mask and apply smoke
And finally, we can remove the overspray film
Next is about stickers, and additional body accessories…

Re: Tamiya M06 - Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
As an owner of a couple of 1:1 scale Alfas (unfortunately not a Giulia Sprint) I absolutely love this!
I do have a M06 Gulia that is built but never finished. Seeing this I now feel that I need to finish it.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Stickers… Let me precise one thing: I hate stickers. If ever I re do a Giulia, I’ll get the windows masking to include the windows surrounding in paint…

Almost final result, although it is missing the number plates which I need to cut in white vinyl…
I’m very happy with the result…

Re: Tamiya M06 - Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
Well that turned out great.
I'm curious what that metallic paint looks like outside under sun light.
Since this is a track car, I'd be tempted to leave those body posts long so they protect the roof from scratches during a rollover.
Anyway, the car is absolutely beautiful. Thanks for posting a very detailed build series here.

And I'm curious also about the sunlight... It was not raining, but there was no sun today. Maybe I'll get a chance tomorrow
At this stage I'm not sure what I will do with the body posts: I will need another body shell for night runs, as the TETC rules requires to run with the original accessories provided with the body shell, which means it is not possible to replace the front part by another one including light buckets. In fine, the plan will be to get a Dino 246 GT body shell, so I won't touch the body posts right now... There will be some updates to this thread for sure

Final touch...
(And unfortunately, I can't cut the body posts until I get the Dino 246 GT body...)

@XLR8, the weather was perfect to get some sunlight pics today...

Re: Tamiya M06 - Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
Awesome, thank you!!!
Yeah, metallic paint can look a bit different depending upon light source.
Again, the car is spectacular.
By the way, will you post a build series here for your Wild One Blockhead?
Reason I'm asking is that I've found a possible error in the manual regarding the placement of a washer in the transmission. It's not a big problem (probably works fine if you build per the manual) but I'd like to know your opinion.

For the Wild One Blockhead, I'll do... The thing is I'm not sure when I'll built it (lot of things in the queue). That being said, it is probably the only one parts complete (including electronics) I can shuffle, so it will be probably the next one to go for a detail build... Normally, this would happen during January. It may depend of my office work though, as one of my work assignments may require a bit of personal involvement beyond normal hours. But I'll do as soon as possible, specially taking into consideration I have some parts on Thingiverse requiring a build to get proper pictures... And taking into consideration my wife asked me yesterday "Aren't those kits not supposed to last more than a week?" seems an indication that I should take my time for next one
I will be interested by your finding. I remember having seen some other mistakes in manuals recently (the wing mount from the Super Avante for example is wrongly positioned apparently - not my finding, just something I saw). I would tend to refer to the other iterations of the Wild One manual to cross check as well (58050, 58525) as a first analysis to see if it is different (sometimes there is difference with the rerelease manuals)...
