Alright so my good friend was nice enough to pick this car up for me because I was almost positive it was a TQ10 chassis and I’ve been on the hunt for one for a really long time now. It’s not in my hands yet but I do have the listing pics.
Naturally I use the 25 years thread to cross reference as I’m sure most do. There is mention of the early chassis not having the motor guard holes in the rear as per Ken, the car that there are photos of in the 25yr thread is stated as a mid production car I’m assuming because of having the motor guard holes and yet still being a short front arm car. Nothing is mentioned about what I’ve noticed between these two chassis’s. I believe this to be an early chassis because of the lack of motor guard holes, it also has the unnecessary 3rd hole for mounting a noseplate from the tub chassis drill pattern. This I do remember being mentioned before. I’ve also noticed now that the mid chassis has all the holes countersunk, and the early (I believe) chassis only has the necessary holes countersunk. The front battery cup holes are inline on the mid and still offset on the early. Now all these variables make sense as per the running changes back then. Now here’s the one that has me scratching my head a little weather or not this is actually a early TQ10 chassis or possibly an aftermarket copy, although I don’t remember anyone actually doing so. If you look closely at where the skinny front section of the chassis transitions to the wide middle section, they are shaped differently. The mid is a square cut, where as the early (again I believe) has more of a radius cut. They also look like two different finishes. I guess the point of all this is has all of this been gone over and documented before ? Is this truly an early TQ10 chassis ?

Yeah, it's the early one.

There was a definite material change between the early chassis and later ones. I've had 3 different tq10 chassis. The mid and late were the same material. More of a uni-directional, Composite Craft style.

It too has the radius cut instead of the more square angle.

Yeah, same as the early TQ10. The woven one was just for AE. A few team drivers had them, which is how Brian got that one.

Was there ever any mention of the reason to change the shape of the cut in the chassis ?

None that I've ever read.

The eventual AE production chassis shape probably added a little more rigidity, and also fit the shape of the Protech II body better. Just my opinions though.

I apologize for not asking more clearly, I was speaking of changing the shape of the cut in the TQ10 chassis’. Not the change in shape of the AE graphite chassis. Thankfully (especially in Brian’s case) they changed the shape of their own. This way it also is like two very different cars, besides the other upgrades they made when releasing their own graphite chassis car. Let’s face it the original TQ10 was basically a standard gold tub car with a new chassis and wheels n tires. AE pulled out a couple tricks when they released their own.

The Tq10 received all of the same changes. Wide front arms, 4 hole front tower, etc. But it didn't last long after the Rc10 release.

Instead of finding a complete car, I only found a chassis. I decided to build it with vintage mods.

The chassis and rear motor guard is only difference between other rc10s of that era right ?

The chassis is the main difference. The TQ had a black motor plate (no guard), similar to the Team Car.

-I used a gold plate on mine just because I wanted to.

It also had the then new light weight wheels and TQ tires. The wheels would also be used on the graphite and Team Car.

- My car has JC Racing wheels (narrow front) and Schumacher Mini Spikes. They look similar to the originals and are available new.

It also had the unique Sidewinder body. TBG has the body and MCI makes the decals.

Thanks ! I will get one somehow whether it be complete car or piece by piece. I can buy new built ones but a bit more than I want to spend at the moment

This is what it looked like when I received it.
There are actually grooves in it from the battery sliding around. That is why I used the foam in that section.
