nitro rustler to bandit mid kit bash

Post by 76jimmy »

I put this up on rctech also but I wanted to see what you guys thought. Not an original idea just something I thought would be fun to mess with.

some aluminum tube, velcro strap and some saddle packs everything fits in where the fuel tank was without chopping anything up.

looks funny but thats just how it works out. the body and wing all wound up in the same place. three rc8t3 body mounts screwed through a repurposed part from the nitro

I tried the wing behind the tower it looked weirder than this.

I was going to try and use the bandit spur gear and slipper but I gave it up in the end.

The car works better than the stock bandit on a carpet track. Need to mess with the shock package next. First day out I was happy with the way it worked.

lots of talent around this forum. Been reading so may threads and the custom parts you guys make are awesome. Id love to get into software design and making my own parts. But I'm kind of thick and hard for me to learn stuff like that. So kit bash it is for me. I don't think I'll be going crazy upgrading this. I'd like to get it to land better and figure out a way to get a gear diff to put fluid in to tune it a little better.

I do remember Hot Racing had a diff for the Slash that was sealed to run diff fluid. Maybe it’s applicable.
Who do you race for ?
Me……. I race for me.
That’s impossible, I was told you need a sponsor to race.

I believe the parts in the nitro trans are different from the electric. I'll have to take both cases apart and see what's what. The gear pitch looks different in the parts explosion on the Traxxas website. For what it is I'll probably just pack some black grease in there and call it done.

A friend gave me a set of AE v2 big bores from a sct6.2 and looks like they will fit up nice. Ordered some CF shock towers from Xtreme Racing and some aluminum bits from Integy. I'll probably get a set of the drag slash shafts from Exotek than that's it... I promise.. nothing else.

What transmission housing is that that has the provision for mounting the electric motor? Is it using Nitro Rustler internals, are they the same as regular 272 Rustler transmission?

It doesn't have provisions for the motor, that's what the motor plate adapter is for.

Finished it up with some aluminum parts from Integy and CF shock towers from Xtreme racing. Maybe I'll paint a lid for it. I reached out to Xtreme see if they'd be interested in cutting me a CF chassis. Oh yea and a set of AE shocks from a SC or T6.X. Also swapped out the combo body wing mount to a 3d printed PETG part. I'm just getting into printing, that's a whole other thing to play with.

Found this pic around here. Anyone know who makes this chassis? I would like to use shorty packs too! I think its Factory works?

It was a factory works chassis. Getting one on the way this week. I'll order a clear lid for it too.

What is this called and is there more info on it? Wouldn't mind converting one of the Slashs to use that.

There was no name assigned as it was never completed. I just offered to cut him the parts as shown and he will sort the hardware and such.

It's getting closer. Have a lot of details left but its basically assembled. mostly parts I had laying around. The protech 2 body seemed to fit the best.
