So, what did you do RC today?

When it's R/C related, but doesn't fit anyplace else.

Started the paintjob for my Super Wheelie project...

Ran out of Tamiya Primer at 6pm on a Saturday :-( ...  And found a valid alternative in a local shop at 7.15pm, otherwise would require me to wait until Thursday to pursue the work. Work will resume today...
(NB: I precise, the dog was white before I started to work with the spray :-) )
I buy kits to build and ru(i)n them :-)

It's not the roof... It's a paint mask 3D printed to fit exactly the parts I wanted to keep with the original finish of the Nylon PA12 MJF...

I put together a tricked out set of very blue Losi shocks. Losi shock bodies in .6, .9 & 1.2 sizes with MIP cartridges, Ti-ni shafts and A-9940 anodized aluminum ball pivots.

After a couple of weeks of searching for 2.5" wide rubber drag slicks unsuccessfully, I decided to try to make my own.

And after looking further into the originals I was looking for, that is exactly what the manufacturer did! They basically had their sidewalls, and they retreaded the top with a slick. Like capping a foam, but not over the sidewall. You can see the tread butt joints in this pick, along with how the tread doesn't quite line up with the lower tire to the right. I wish I had an original set to prove this, and see how narrow the original tires were, but no such luck.

Now, I don't plan to do anywhere near as nice of a job as the manufacturer, but figured I would try it. I don't know what these tires were originally, but they are being sacrificed now for drag slicks. The center fill is printed TPE, which is about .5mm too narrow in this first version. When all this is glued up, the plan is to cover it all with a stretched bicycle tube tread. No idea if this is going to work out, but fun to play with in the meantime.

Sand drags are becoming popular with no prep winding down for the year. So, it was time to build a 18" wheelbase sand chassis 8) sadly it's Traxxas but I didn't have to buy anything from them so it's ok

I think you should strongly consider an upper chassis to eliminate the slight flex that may be present from the wheelbase
Who do you race for ?
Me……. I race for me.
That’s impossible, I was told you need a sponsor to race.
Hey Cru ! Go balls out 8)

The two options we have are aluminum with bent sides or 5mm carbon fiber with the option to add side rails. Guys are running 4mm carbon currently and the flex isn't that terrible. Since weight isn't a huge concern I am liking the aluminum option. Here's what I have being cut to test with

I just finished preparing my stuff for the Vosgienne Vintage RC 2023
Image

It's a bit far from here, I'm going to my brother's place tonight, and will get on site tomorrow morning. The cars are ready, I have some spares available, just in case, althought I foresee not much runs and more discussion about 3D printing around my cars....
