Never seen this before and have had a lots of them. Triangle center? I could see how it would create less friction yet still support at this common area for melting?

Look at the big center holes. One is a triangle here, one is the round one I have only ever seen. Both of these were recently opened NIP items.

I have never seen a triangle center hole. Was that right out of the package from Losi?

Is this something that changed due to the difficulty in getting the special narrow bearing?

I don't know. That's the fascinating part. I started tearing apart vintage Jrx's around 2008 and probably had 100 or so and countless diffs, transmissions etc. and never came across this.
I could see this as creating less friction and also allowing a nice pocket for grease. The plastic is a bit harder and lighter gray in color as well.
How we confirm how and when these came to be, that should be good entertainment for a while. Start hunting and buy them before they are $500 a piece
Better pics or both sides.

I have one, Had it for years, don't recall exactly where I got it but it was in with a bunch of other gears and parts.
I always assumed it was a one-off molding error.
The pic here is the triangle center, standard gear and ball bearing gear.
The triangle hole is too small to fit the diff side gear, It fits <3/16" shaft in the center and the diff half stub is 1/4"
Standard gear is loose fit over 1/4" shaft and bb gear is 3/8" inner diameter.
No real help on knowing the origin of the triangle center other than that more than one exists

I'd like to start an "official" conspiracy theory on this. Needs to be a vintage one rooted in 1990 give or take.
