Wheel discoloration

My B2 buggy has some yellow 3 piece wheels that would be pretty cool if they weren't discolored in spots. Some of the places make me think it could be from rusty parts, but other places seem like they wouldn't be. Has anyone tried successfully to remove red/orange discoloration like this? Or are theses wheels destined to be dyed black as an only option?

clr may remove the rust staining but it may take a while to get it out of the plastic if it can. the other stuff i would try super clean on. I wouldn't dye them. Maybe some old school wheel disc stickers to mask them?

Or just paint them? Quick and cheap.

Overnight CLR treatment did not help with the discoloration. It might not be from rust.

uv staining? peroxide maybe?

Well I recently H2O2'd some white parts that had previously had some rust staining and it seemed to remove that. It was not as "extensive" as on your wheels there. But what if hydrogen peroxide is not so much of a whitener as it is a brightener? Just a thought.

I'll suggest sand it lightly and re-dye it in yellow.

The dark around the edges where the tire bead seats are probably from the oils in the rubber. Maybe some simple green soaking could help it. As far as the norm goes though is to send them on down the road and new ones in order. Miss the days when these were plentiful and flippers weren't so rampant...

Tried soaking in Pine Sol cleaner. It does a good job on oils but had no effect. They are inching closer to going for a dip in my vat of black dye.

black dyed > stained anything

By chance, have you tried lighter fluid?
I use it to clean nylon spur gears. Removes the ground-in dirt and oil stains and makes them white again.
Might be worth a try.
