Back at the work bench after a hiatus while building a house and then messing around with HO slot cars over the past few years. I started to restore this TQ10 several years ago but never got past tear down. I did collect a few NIB parts back then, so I'll try to get this one in nice shape without using any re-re parts. The goal to get it to the rolling chassis stage before spring.
The previous owner drilled the chassis (poorly) for a stealth trans at some point. I'll fill the holes and clean up the chassis a bit. I guess this would be considered a mid-production chassis, as it is drilled for the motor guard.

I moved into a new house and have not fully unpacked all the RC stuff after the move. The bin that I stored the torn down buggy in was missing many parts, so I've been digging through moving boxes over the past week looking for the rest of the car.
It's funny (and a bit sad) when I find cars/parts/tools that I have forgotten about. My wife says I'm like a kid at Christmas as I dig through the stash. High five!

Found an RC10 graphite and will probably build that next.
I think the arms, shocks, towers etc may be in here somewhere... Gold pans!

I think the gold motor plate I had in the TQ10 bin is not correct. This 6 gear with a black ano motorplate seems to be the correct trans for a TQ10.

This 6 gear seems to have a bunch of hours on it. I don't have a lot of history with the RC10, but this is the most wear I've seen in my experience.
The outdrives are beat!
The motor plate has some wheelie wear. I hate to do it, but will probably need to paint it.

The motor guard does not cover the damaged edge.

Considering how well the motor guard covers it, I wouldn’t paint it. For me it’s also the fact that it’s a TQ10 only piece.

For stuff like that, I usually just touch it up with a black Sharpie.

If you know it's there, it's still obvious. Otherwise, people aren't likely to notice it.

You could always just cut a the plate down to where the anodizing is good. Tucked behind the motor guard and screwed in it will look proper.

Small scratches can be fixed with Birchwood Casey Aluminum black.
Clean surface with acetone.
Apply Aluminum Black with a cotton bud or brush.
Rinse with water.
Polish with dremel and cotton wheel.

I tested a semi-gloss paint pen and the results look decent. I'll test the Birchwood stuff, too, as I have a few other things in the safe that could use some touch up.
Inspecting some nylon to see which is the prettiest... I may need to peroxide a few pieces a bit.

Make sure you put a couple of body pins in those 6929 screws on the rear plate.

There is a pen version of this as well. It's just right for scratches.

Separating the good from the not so good. My shock inventory is in poorer shape than I recall.... These are all the bottom loaders I have. There are two new 1.32 bodies and a couple decent .56s. None of the shock caps are perfect.

Thanks for the info. Will be on the lookout at the sporting goods store.

You might be onto something. Having a body pin holder when the top is off would be unique.
