Box looks amazing, I really like how they did a matte finish to give it the classic vintage look.

"Genuine Parts" this is a new logo and indicative of AE's recognition of the vibrant aftermarket that has spawned in the wake of their absence

signal-2024-05-02-113651_015.jpeg

Very cool embossed '40th Anniversary' logo. Obligatory 'Designed in the U.S.A.'

There is NO serial number present on the outside of the box...

'40' stamped chassis is a nice touch!

Bottom of chassis. Anodizing is much better quality and color than the 2013 re-release.

** Distinct color difference in front block carriers

signal-2024-05-02-220650_029.jpeg

Upon inspecting front block carriers they appear to be glass filled nylon where all other front parts are plain nylon. No idea if this is intentional for strength, but definitely does not look aesthetically appealing. The inside of the block carriers look to be a bit more relieved and thinner, curious if this was the driver for making them glassed filled. For a 'shelf queen' I would have liked to see consistency in the materials for all external nylon pieces. Frankly, this is a potential lost opportunity for AE to release 'hard' versions of these parts. Who knows, maybe that is on the radar 8)

Good quality fiberglass with vintage looking weave, much better than the 2013 re-release.

signal-2024-05-02-220650_021.jpeg

Fit and finish is actually exceptionally nice, everything went together well and moves free but without excess slop. I am impressed :D

Stamped front nose plate!!! Absolutely wonderful!!!

Contents of Bag 'C'

- Spur gear is low % glassed filled, for strength.
- Idler gears are high % glassed filled, for strength
- All steel internals are coated black, possibly a DLC coating?
- Bushings are not oilite, possibly just plain bronze?

signal-2024-05-02-220650_014.jpeg

Completed transmission, everything went together well and is surpsingly smooth with just a few burrs in the gear mesh.

Small gripe, wish that AE would have included two (2) battery cups and straps instead of one. Kinda cheaped out in my opinion.

Similar gripe as Bag 'H', in my opinion AE should have included two (2) sets of servo mounts. In fact, just as a nod to the heritage and vintage nature of the kit a mechanical speed control would have been really neat.

- Body window masks
- Antenna tube and cap (wish it was translucent white like the original)
- 3M double-sided tape

signal-2024-05-03-151249_005.jpeg
signal-2024-05-03-151249_006.jpeg

- Commemorative 'post card'.

Again, a missed opportunity. In my opinion this could have made a great candidate to pair with the chassis serial number. It could have been a 'Certificate of Authenticity' of sorts.

signal-2024-05-03-151249_007.jpeg

- Rear wing
- Driver figure

Likely the same driver figure from the RC10CC as it has the same visible 'tooling' marks on it.

- Body

AE did take note of their failure with the RC10CC and polybagged the body. No scratches or damage to this body, hooray!!!

Chassis build complete! 8)

Initial thoughts about the build are extremely positive. Fit and finish on all the parts are exceptional, molding is nice, parts move freely but do not have excessive slop. I'd hazard to say this is the best re-release kit yet, not saying perfect by any means, but the best kit yet

Some 'Pros'
- Mold quality. The parts look and work together quick nicely. Everything is nice and free and requires not much hand fitting.
- '40' stamp is really cool. The serial number and laser etching make it unique for a shelf queen but the stamp does it for me.
- Much better G10 fiberglass weave on the shock towers. The 2013 series of re-release kits and parts were junk.
- Anodizing. Quality of the anodizing is much better than the 2013 re-release.
- Body. Cut lines, and molding is actually quite good.
- Stamped nose plate. Great attention to detail on this one, the 2013 re-release missed the mark on this as well.
- Tires. Both the tires and wheels are well done. Tires are nice and soft and have 'Team Associated'' and 'AE" logo molded into them.

Some 'Cons'
- If the intent here was to really make this kit a 'limited edition' anniversary kit commemorating 40 years of RC10 heritage I think AE could have included a few more bits and pieces to make this kit truly uniqure.
- Still scratching my head on why the front hub carrier is the ONLY external piece of nylon that is glass filled. It simply looks odd and out of place. If the intent here was to make it 'stronger' for a runner I believe AE has a missed opportunity to sell 'hard' versions of all the suspension pieces. I know many folks (myself included) would purchase them :P
- Would have liked to have received two (2) battery cups, battery straps, and servo mounts.
- No manual. None of us 'need' one, but we all WANT one. Again, a huge missed opportunity to add a nostalgic factor.

Hi from the uk,I've got one on pre order, but have to say I'm disappointed that they now come with black screws and not the gold/green ones, that and no instruction manual, and no front anti rollbar takes the shine off it, I've only put £25 deposit down, I'm seriously considering cancelling it

Agree, it would have been nice if they included a front anti-roll bar for those who desire to do a 'box art' build. I am still holding out hope that AE amazes us with a ton of aftermarket parts and support parts. We'll see.
