Any tips on how to get the roll pins into the rear axle?

Figured it out, laid the axle on a pair of pliers, then hammered in the roll pin.

I modified some cheap pliers to install roll pins.

I also modified a pliers. They are very easy to install now.

These are spring roll pins.

use a pair of needle nose pliers and line it up so the gap in the pin is perpendicular to the pilers jaws. This means when you squeeze down on the pliers the gap in the pin gets smaller. Flex the pin a few times. so that it rests a bit smaller than when you started. Then squeeze the pin and it should fit in the axle without too much fuss, if the hole in the axle was machined properly.

Compressing a spring before installation helps with any spring to need to install.

I use a Roll Pin starter punch and finish with a Roll Pin punch. The Roll Pin starter punch is hollow and holds the Roll Pin to just get it started into the axle.

Anyone know if these roll pins fit the RC10 1/4" axles? I'm needing a few roll pins to fit the original 1/4" axles for mine and a friend's Team cars.

No those are for the 3/16 axles. You want 3/32 x 7/16 for the 1/4" axles (per the old AE header card)

I think I have a package of these somewhere too. Years ago I was building the widest oval truck ever built and had some axles that needed a pin. They arrived and had to be put together, and I'm like, isn't a machine supposed to do this?? That, among other issues, such as zoning disputes and budgetary problems brought the build to a standstill. The parts are all still here somewhere. At least now I know. I still think the axles should arrive already put together...

Good deal. My large roll pin set has 3/32 pins, but the shortest is 5/8 long. So I'll just need to whack a 1" incher in half (which will remove 1/8") and chamfer the edges. Sweet. Thanks Jeff.

It sounds like the measure once cut twice then use the part you cut off to try again method

Ha been there far too many times.

Definitely how it will go. In theory, one pin will make two. In reality, four pins later, I'll have my two good enough pins

Miraculously, one 1 inch pin became two 7/16" pins on the first attempt.
