In 1995 Traxxas, with their renewed focus on entry level vehicles, would release a 1/10 2wd on-road truck called the Spirit. Not based on their newest Rustler derived platform the Spirit instead used the 8-year-old Cat chassis. Traxxas was still contracting with Blue Bird Model Mfg. Co. Ltd. of Tiawan and Cat 2wd buggy had been rebranded as the on-road Street Cat with treaded tires in 1989 then again as the off-road Tom Cat with the return of knobby tires in 1995, at which time Traxxas filled the on-road gap with the Spirit truck. It used the same ABS plastic monocoque chassis, long travel trailing arm suspension with oversized steel pivot shaft and ball end adjustable tie rods up front, serviceable gear differential inside the ball and socket live axle rear, and adjustable oil-filled coilover plastic shocks at all four corners. Inside the clam shell chassis was a pair of Traxxas servos, 3-step mechanical speed controller with reverse, new 20T motor, and two channel 27MHz receiver for the pistol grip radio. Available only as fully assembled RTR with bushings, street slick tires on silver wheels, and a painted lexan body. The Spirit would be updated in 2001 with new paint schemes, chrome wheels and a TQ radio system:
