I purchased this tub and front plate from the Fibre-Lyte guys last August or so, just for this build. Now, I finally have the MIP kit - so here it goes. I'll add more photos of the project as things progress...

Man, these things sure are common...

I mean three CF tub MIP builds out of 400+ members....jeeze give it a rest.

I was going to bid heavily on the last fusion speed chassis on ebay, but after seeing the fiber lyte tubs I decided against it. Fusion speed is old school carbon, but fiber lyte is just better looking overall in my opinion. Plus it looks to be much stronger, the fusion speed I currently have seems fragile in comparison to what the fiber lite looks like in terms of strength.

What? Not even Quarter Flash a-arms? J/K, good luck on the build, it will look very nice. By the way, since you have a recent production CF tub, are the holes that bolt to the rear bulkhead aligned with the ones in the tub? Will you have to trim the sides at the rear to fit the arm mounts? Finally, is the front kick-up drilled or not?

Yep, this chassis has the same issues as the older versions. The alignment of the side bulkhead mounting holes is off a bit and it’s too wide in the back. The really surprising thing, however, is the substantial gap between the bulkhead mounting tabs and the bulkhead. Perhaps they were allowing for a chassis brace or some other bulkhead? Maybe I’ll install an A&L brace per wyldbill's suggestion… All of these items have fairly easy workarounds. At least the positioning and alignment of all of the critical holes on the bottom of the tub are spot-on.

I tried to talk Martin into completely milling the kick-up, but he just wouldn't do it. However, the flat part where it connects to the chassis is drilled, and those holes are perfect.

I’m also considering applying a gloss finish to the underside of the chassis. If any of you painters out there have any suggestions, I’d be most grateful.

BTW did you speak to Martin or anyone about your chassis's problems? I got mine through the post today and the first thing I noticed was that the rear was to wide.

I am going to be pretty annoyed if the bulkhead is miles from the chassis at the sides too.

Oh have you trimmed the rear of your chassis to fit the arms yet?

Mine was delivered with CF spacers attached with tape and I can't find them anymore, anyway they were not enough thick, I'll just use some plastic spacers like on the front tubes...

No, I have not talked with Martin or Stephen about this yet. Actually, I didn’t notice these issues until just recently when I started the mock-up. This stuff has been sitting in a box for the last 8 months or so. I just fired off an email to them about the bulkhead spacing. We’ll see what they have to say.

I have not trimmed the rear section yet. I may end up going with several aluminum pieces, including the rear arm mounts. If I do, I probably won’t do any serious trimming – just smoothing – as those mounts are flat across the bottom and there’s ample clearance for the arms.

The FL Tubs BITD came with little 3mm carbon spacers for the width over the bulkhead issue. At least I'm 99% sure mine did and the one i recently picked up had spacers too.

The slight mis-alignment isn't a biggy in my opinion.. it's not as if we run these cars!

And as for the matte surface underneath, I found Auto Clear coat worked a treat - it did sink a bit into the porus carbon surface, but a re-application would fix this.

Other than that, I think the quality is very good.. these are not easy things to make IMO!!

I thought others might be interested in their response:

Hi Paul,

I've asked the question and have been told that spacing is purely because the carbon tub could not be moulded with those tabs in their original position as on the original chassis. They had to be position further out otherwise the chassis couldn't be released from its mould.

Just as Dr. Robotnik mentioned in his post earlier on his 4-10 thread, they also let me know they were sending out the 3mm spacers to fill those gaps ASAP.

the "mold" is probably a tub chassis, you can probably fit a tub inside the other one.
