Not been on here for a while or really into much RC-wise but these are too cool not to post.

An old journalist friend has loaned me his album of personal pictures from the Romsey Worlds in 1987. I have seen one thread requesting pictures of this car but not much else - these shots are previously unseen I would think.

Early days really I guess. Still in the XL phase, plus what looks like the typical twin front upright widening mod. The Masami car was similar - kind of makes a bit of a joke of the ‘Masami XLS’ re-re issue when you think about it. As a correct reproduction it should be in slightly modified XL format. His car had the same cut down front upright widening solution too.

These are some of the best quality pictures I have seen of that event. I have Jamie’s and Masami’s in a similar format, plus all of the Mids, the Yokomo prototypes and many others.

From the photos, it appears (to my barely functional eyes) that Cliff has one way front drive axles whereas Masami does not. Am I seeing that correctly?

The driveshafts have been flipped on the Masami car to move the one way rollers to just outside the diff rather than down by the wheel to reduce the unsprung weight. Common practice in the UK club scene. It is hard to see in this picture but if you go on to the House of RC website they have shamelessly used my pictures from these posts and from my mag scans last year. On there you get a close up showing the inner roller bearings.

The other reason we used to run them like cliff was so you could remove the one ways a lot faster. All you had to do was take the one way section out and replace it with a non one way section rather than try to remove the crucifix between the diff out drive and the one way each time.
