B6 Diff in B5 case ?

Since there is no modern AE section I'm posting my question here.

I'm really a sucker for closeout sales. Anyway, do B6 diffs fit into B5 cases? That would help me for a budget Frankenbuggy.

Thanks, Tony

The AE website says B5/B6/B7 all use the same 91419 ball diff gear, but B5 and B6 have different outdrive part numbers. Both the B5 and B6 use 10x15x4 outdrive bearings though, so it seems like there's hope of the diff working.

B5 diffs were a little narrower, a couple mm. To use a b5 diff in a b6, they included shims. That said, the DR10/SR10/RB10 use a b5 style diff, it is narrower and fits the B6 case with shims added. That would be the way to go, plus you can probably pick up a parted out DR10 trans cheaper than buying the parts by the piece (as they dont sell it complete like the B6 diffs)

here is a topic from MIP addressing using their diffs from a B5 in a B6 case, it would apply the same as OEM parts would https://site.petitrc.com/setup/associated/setupb6/B6_FittingB5Diff/

Does the B5 diff fit the sc10 diff case with the appropriate bearings?

Any model produced after 1999 goes into the catch-all forum '21st Century Modern.' I've moved this there for you. :)
