in 1990 Kyosho introduced a new line of 1/10 electric 4wd on-road cars they called their Super Scale Series. Released concurrently with their Scale Series of cars the Super Scale versions differed by not only featuring a much greater level of detail but also rode on their own unique chassis to accommodate such. Each body was formed from clear lexan and included molded plastic external accessories such as mirrors, wipers, wings, exhausts, etc. to compliment the high level of refinement found on the bodies themselves. But visually, it was the fully detailed interiors that set the Super Scale Series apart. Vacuum formed from black abs plastic the paintable interior shells featured intricately detailed dashboards, seats, center consoles, molded plastic steering wheels, shifters, and in some cases complete engine compartments. With the body removed all Super Scale cars were underpinned by the same adjustable wheelbase, tub style, 4wd chassis. Constructed of injection molded plastic the rear of the tubs incorporated a pair of aluminum rods that allowed the wheelbase to be adjusted to one of seven positions to accommodate the needs of each model, lending to more realistic proportions with the Super Scale cars over the standard Scale Series which were restricted to the Ultima II/Optima Mid wheelbases. Double a-arm independent suspensions could be found at all four corners, the front fitted with a servo saver equipped twin bellcrank steering system leading to adjustable tie rods, and plastic coilover friction shocks, while the rear would receive a pair of oil-filled plastic coilovers. The center of the chassis and its detachable upper braces held the transverse mounted battery, speed controller and servos. Bringing up the very rear of the car was the longitudinally mounted motor pointing forwards and engaging a counter gear style transmission contained under a molded cover that spun up the shaft driven four-wheel drive system with bevel gear diffs located in sealed cases fore and aft. Dogbone axles rotated each of the cars uniquely styled two-piece wheels shod in 245/40ZR17 front and 335/35ZR rear Pirelli P Zero radial tread tires. The unassembled kits also included a mechanical speed controller and LeMans Stock 05 motor, but sold less radio:

I remember these from back in the day but never saw one in person. They were a real odd bird of a model, and don't think they were around long. They're super cool though, and that adjustable split chassis always stuck with me.
