Jrx2 Proformance - Kit build w/out hop-ups

I picked up what I thought was a brand new Proformance build back in 2018. I was sent several pics before purchasing, but some photos aren't the greatest, and it's obvious that I was not looking hard enough for flaws. To some people
brand new build means a mix of new and used parts, but I digress on that. The chassis is definitely original, new, and scratch free. The chassis is glossy on top and matte on the bottom. Included was an original uncut Proformance body that had "Jack" signed below the windshield. I recently had the body verified to be a legit Jack Johnson painted original, so that was a welcome surprise. Since a new clear Proformance body is nearly unobtainable I don't mind having a painted one. The Jr's Choice mod motor was missing, but I was able to find a new one a few years ago. It took a few years to hunt down a decent box with the label intact. The only things I believe I am missing would be the three extra rear pivot supports (in transit) and the original box art Jrx2 tires. I'm not too concerned about tires since I have different style nip ones from the 1990 Losi Price list and a new vintage set of late orange spoke wheels. I will not be using any hop-ups on this build. It looks like this kit was between $90-$100 at some hobby shops.
I have a few small parts on the way, so I am slowly putting it all back together now. Steering cranks were cracked at the ball stud hole (common) for the servo, so I bought a nip one to replace it. Nearly all of the hinge pins needed to be replaced. The front bulkhead was never trimmed, so I took the liberty of carefully trimming the front lip off to reduce the kickup since it sits on top of the mini bumper.
The front inner hinge pins can only be removed/inserted when the front bulkhead is off the chassis. Those should arrive later in the week. I will continue updating this thread as time permits.

With all of that said the front bulkhead was never trimmed, so I took the liberty of carefully trimming the front lip off to reduce the kickup.
That front section doesn't touch the chassis and only really needs to be trimmed if you're using the early JRX2 optional sandwiched front bumper.

Proformance kit includes the mini front bumper/skid plate, so you must trim the front bulkhead lip per the instructions. The person that originally built this buggy up never trimmed it.

Oops, Never realized the bumper came with it. Does say it right on the box though. My bad.

Drilled the rear bulkhead inner camber holes using a #43 bit today. The Losi March 1990 Tech Sheet says you should use a 3/8" ball stud that threads into the new Pro rear tower.

Today was shock day. Everything is new and original, including the early shock collars. I drilled out the front pistons with a #56 bit per the tech tips. My kit rear springs are purple (chipping paint which is typical), and I believe that was a running production color change.

I was able to track down the missing A-2016 rear pivot supports. Instructions and tech tips call for the #1 pivot since the Jrx2 rear pivot (A-2002) is only for the 5-link suspension. Got everything mounted up and made sure everything is accounted for. I'll get the wheels mounted up tomorrow and pick out some minty fresh electronics.

Since the body was painted by Jack it makes sense to use the Motown Missile. I’ll keep the Jr’s choice in the motor tube in case I swap it out.
The Tekin 411P was released in 1990, and so was this particular Rx. This saves me from having to hunt down an ESC 600 or 610. Servo is a high end bearing and coreless model. I only ran Futaba radios bitd.

I'm enjoying this build for a bunch of reasons.
Firstly is a pure build, no shortcuts. Then just the rarity of the build in general. The quality of the accessories. The body I used to own (lol), the attention to detail and lastly it really fills a void for me personally since I had built and sold the same car....which I regret.
Great job, can't wait to see the finished product

Love the use nip period electronics! This build is like a time capsule.

Thanks for the kind words. It definitely takes more time, effort, and cash to do one of these rare builds some justice. Hunting the parts is actually as fun as the assembly. However, finding some of the obscure Losi parts seems to take more effort than Associated. I could use a pair of new H-arm lower shock spacers if you have them.

It's going to take more effort to cut this one than it did on my CC RPM Worlds build. Fortunately this body that Jumpin' Jack painted is the perfect match for this build.
