Pretty sure this is a common problem and after coming up empty from a search thought I would ask here.
Is there a readily available upgrade or solution for the steering ball cups popping off? When I tap the drain pipe its about a 50/50 if one pops off my 40th.
Thanks!

Not really sure what else might be out there?? RPM has long and short shank, I always forget which to buy? THIS up there site and look, even send a email to make sure. Hope this helps a bit, some guys here are really incredibly smart and ALL are helpful.

I recall captured ball joints being used to solve this.

RPM ball cups are really too bulky for a RC10 buggy, particularly around the bellcranks and front shock tower area.
If you are set on white, the Fan RC cups might be an option. I think Hot Racing has some as well but I don't know the quality.
If color doesn't matter, Schumacher short ball cups are excellent.

If you opt for captured ball joints, make sure you also get the cone spacers depicted by JosephS.
Along with juicedcoupe I also have very good experience with Schumacher ball cups - I use them on several platforms.
Here are some grey Schumacher ball cups on a Hotshot. They replaced the ae ones I used previously.

Here is another setup with captured ball joints where cone spacers are used on the ones with vertical articulation.
The bell crank link joints are only fitted on a small washer.

Not vintage, but very effective. I have these on a couple of re-re Cougars.
