Well here we go again with another engine overhaul. This time it's a late OS .15CV-X.

I managed to pick this engine up from the hobby shop for $20 as it was locked up solid. It was quite dirty and the filter foam perished but the engine appeared to be in reasonable shape.




I thought this engine was a pilot/SG crank as the clutch bell was held on by a screw but was pleasantly surprised when I took it apart.

Looking back the drive washer and spacer should have been a dead give away that it was a threaded crank....

Engine stripped bare ready for cleaning, it actually came apart pretty easy with the exception of the crank which required a little persuasion and persistence.


I love these parts shakers, the only thing better would probably be an ultrasonic cleaner. Maybe I should invest in one someday.

Anyways, the bearings took about 4 rounds of cleaning to get to a point where I was happy with them.

To save all the boring bits here is the engine all cleaned ready for reassembly


Bearings, crank, piston and liner all assembled, it doesn't look like this engine has had much use.


This was new to me, looks like OS changed one way bearings at some stage. This one is thin in comparison to the old bearing and only has three dimples for engagement. Because it's thinner they use a brass shim.


Nearly finished, pullstart and head installed. The engine feels good with plenty of comparison. Just need to finish the carb and she's finished.

Without going into too much detail here's the restored 10C slide carb. This came out fantastic!

And the engine basically finished..... The CV isn't a terribly good engine as the liner is ABN instead of ABC, but it still looks nice and they were very reliable if tuned well and looked after.

While I soak bearings as well, the bearing blaster and some carb cleaner with quickly remove a lot of gunk. Electric contact cleaner works as well (odor isn't as strong) but costs 3X as much.

I have an old RRP bearing cleaner which is similar but different.

Electronic cleaner just wasn't cutting the gummed up castor oil, so something harsher was needed I still really want to try the hot glycol method though....
