Following the launch of their Formula One and IndyCar platforms in 1993 Kyosho introduced the R/C Sport Racing series in 1994 which helped popularize the parking lot racing phenomenon of the 1990's. Originally a vehicle to increase sales by providing customers with an outlet to use their cars Kyosho quickly expanded the series to include all makes. As a low-cost format racers were restricted to single motor and battery selections while make and modifications were left open to create a more diverse racing field compared to single model spec-car classes. As the 90's waned so too did the parking lot racing sensation and Kyosho's R/C Sport Racing series vanished as quickly as it appeared:

Parking lot racing needs to make a comeback. Many folks don't have viable local RC tracks, but everyone has a big empty parking lot they could terrorize on weekends.

With Toys R Us, Kmart and Gordmans deteriorating for so long you could start an off-road racing series in their parking lots.
