We always like seeing runners and excellent shelfers, but how about the projects that never seem to come to completion? This contest is for the projects that are stuck. Missing parts, broken parts, impossible to find parts, or lack of motivation to put the parts together. What does winning mean? Congratulations, you had a vision but you haven't built it yet! Maybe next year?

Rules: We always need rules, even if they aren't enforceable

You have 7 days to post up photos of your entry. No need to do a placeholder. Just proudly put in your entry and let the intimidation begin.

Up to 10 entries are allowed

Up to 3 photos of an entry.

Photos are uploaded to the site, not remotely hosted

No run videos because entries need to be incomplete.
Runners are disqualified and the overachiever will be booed!

Open to all brands and franken-style builds

"Winning" one month does not disallow a different entry from the same member in another month.

Past monthly "winner" entry not eligible for future monthly entry.

2 votes per member will be allowed. Are votes for an entry actually an insult? šŸ¤”

Voting poll will be added on 8th of the month, or sooner if there are 10 entries before then.

Please only make contest entry posts before the poll is up. After poll has begun, other posts can be made.

Thanks for reading all this. Good luck?

A fairly rare Yokomo WCS YZ-10.

This has been ongoing since 2014 where I'd buy some bits, forget about it, then buy some bits again and forget about it again. I probably have about 90% of it ready to go and went through a bit of push to finish it, but when I got screwed from L&L models on the turnbuckles I kinda lost interest again.

I'll finish it one day as it's a pretty cool car and has some interesting machine work done to it.

Wait- you only want pics of one unfinished build? I have like 14 going at a time šŸ˜… I wouldn't know how to decide.

Here is my Bulldog. It's been sitting like this for at least 6 years. It survived the move but now it seems I've lost the tires and wheels 🫣

Parma California Sport Truck. Hasn't moved under it's own power in 20 years. I did verify that everything still works.

I swapped in matching Duratrax electronics and did a little work on it several years ago (battery strap and blue hardware), then lost interest again.

The body has seen better days but I can't find a replacement. So I somewhat patched it up on the bottom and primed it on the outside. And it's been collecting dust ever since (you can see the finger prints).

I had bought new tires for it but stole them for another project.

This was at one point a Marui Samurai. It was given to me by my friend who never really got to drive it as it was in this exact condition when it was given to him when he was a kid. I got halfway through breaking it down for cleaning and seeing what it needed before I realized it needs just about everything. (Maybe I should enlist Silvertriple for help lol)

Yes, that's the roof crudely affixed to the underside of the chassis to brace a crack in the frame.

How it sits currently

The gearbox was epoxied together, one of the diffs is also epoxied together. Basically I need to replace most of the plastics. Sooner or later I'll buy the models from Optima House and print some parts but this is on hold for now.

This project frustrates me. I was making great progress, and then life got really busy as usual. I feel that it won't get completed for some time.

It is sort of a Traxxas SRT-ish Kyosho RT5/6 mongrel... Jeff's Rustler to SRT conversion chassis, white Traxxas 2wd plastics, and the shocks and hubs from the last Kyosho Ultima Truck platform. The wheels on these are quick change, which adds to the interest level. The body is a Sabula repop of a Bolink Rustler body that has the Stampede's grill lines. I also have some Lunsford turnbuckles to complete the setup, but need to buy more 4.8mm Kyosho ball studs.

And yes, I know I need to flip the front body mount.

Here is my perpetually stalled Kyosho Heavy Metal Blizzard. I have all the parts to make it complete, a nice original body.. but it could really use a new tub and the gears have some wear.. but I later bought a nib kit, so this has been on the back burner for years. The Heavy Metal is one of my holy grail kits that I always wanted from back in the day, but for some reason I’m not very compelled to at least make it a shelfer yet. Vintage Kyosho T-shirt for bonus points.

Well, I think my Schumacher Daytona project is an obvious candidate for this competition..... as a few people have been telling me!

I remember looking at images and details of the Daytona back when they were initially released, in 1992/1993. At the time, I had a Schumacher Nitro 10, and the two vehicles shared the engine and a number of other major parts. I was always amazed that this sporty little nitro pan chassis was related to my great hulking monster of a gas truck... and read all the articles and reviews that came past my eyes. Sadly, they were a bit too expensive for me to buy, after shelling out for the Nitro 10 (which I had lots of fun but little luck with anyway), so ownership remained a pipe dream.

Roll on the early to mid-2000s, and I'm collecting Nitro 10 projects off eBay, with the plan of rebuilding my old one, and maybe having a runner or two. Picked up some great bargains over the years, although people would rightly comment that I was paying good money for junk.... but hey, it was my money, and not much of it needed to be spent back then!

Roll on to August 2006, and my good buddy Jason has picked up a massive lot of new Schumacher parts, which included a lot of nitro stuff that he had no use for.... these came to me, and became the beginning of my own Nitro 10 project.
ALEX NITRO 10.jpg
In August 2008, the collecting of parts was progressing, to the point where I started an ironically-named "Build Thread" here on RC10Talk. This became a place on the forum to discuss all things Daytona, keep a list of missing parts, show off new arrivals, and have people all over the world berate me for not having the project finished yet. The thread still runs (obviously), and can be found here: https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?t=6818

Things moved along (!!) for a few years, and in December 2011 I was lucky enough to be sent a scan of an original manual by a good friend... an early Christmas present indeed! This was able to detail more about what I was missing, and how this weird little thing went together. IN July 2016, I was able to source my own near-new copy of the manual, but for years, that scan was a lifesaver, and a Dogsend.

In November 2018, I had some more good fortune, picking up a near-complete Daytona on eBay for a great price, including the kit box - don't think I've ever hit a Buy-It-Now on eBay quicker! A big day for me indeed, as it showed me that a) kit boxes did exist; and b) these cars did actually mount together! It also supplied me with original versions of the carbon fibre parts I had been missing, which I was later able to have reproduced by Bezerk RC here in Australia..... carbon parts for all!

By May 2019, the parts collecting had become a bit of an issue, with large numbers of parts and upgrades having been procured, but still no build progressed in any meaningful way. This culminated in the spreading out of all parts, much embarrassment at exactly how much was there, and a renewed vigour for finding the remaining missing parts, and "getting on with it"!
Daytona Project.jpg
As mentioned previously, missing carbon parts was one of the big issues for the project, which now seemed to be building not one, but THREE Daytonas! At this time, contact was made with Bezerk RC, who manufacture and reproduce carbon fibre parts for racers down here in Australia. Their quality workmanship is known the world over, and they were local, so my uber-rare carbon bits (from the eBay kit) were sent off to be reproduced.... and the parts that came back were an exact match to the originals in shape, colour, and quality. Can thoroughly recommend Paul at Bezerk RC, and he now has the parts on file for reproduction for anyone.... he even has the chassis, if you really feel like splashing out!

Some time later in the piece, my good buddy from the GlobalTeamOfRob, RJ (@RC10th ) expressed an interest in the Irvine engines.... so I sent him a couple needing rebuilding, as well as some parts. In September 2023, a couple of rebuilt Irvine engines arrived back, looking like new parts. One would go in the Daytona, and the other becomes a paperweight, ready to donate parts (internally carp). Many thanks, RJ... the engine looks great, and promises to be awesome when the project gets rolling  Also big thanks to Andy in Slovakia, who provided me with some reproduction / home-made air filters - the originals rotted away just by looking at them, and Andy's parts look perfect.

So, fast forward to today, and this is where the project sits:
Progress April 2025.jpg
Still need to sort out a few minor things, connect up the radio linkages, create the wiring harness, and mount the body. Could be finished in a few weeks..... could be a few more years. Keep an eye on the build thread for more updates!

Oh, and just for gits and shiggles, I recently started a parallel Daytona build.... this one will be an electric conversion, because why not. That one is waiting for me to rebuild a transmission, so it could be a while....

I'll jump in!

I guess mine isn't too bad, but I started with a complete roller and ended up with most of a slider after three years.

THIS is my unicorn. When my parents brought me to the hobby store back in 1990 and asked which kit I wanted, I pointed to the blue and white buggy that looked like a space ship. The store said it'd be too hard to assemble for a novice (probably right) and I'd have to race modified buggy, so i left with a JRX-T. Years later when i got back into RC I sifted through $800-$1000 listings for years until I happened upon this reasonably priced listing. It's remaining axles and bearings are a little rusty, it survived replacing most of the hardware with hex drive, but then an event came up that I tried to get it or one of the other lazers running for and some parts got scavenged, never returned, then it was put on the shelf. Don't know when I'll get back to it. I now have quite a collection and this is the farthest from running, both parts and time wise.

When I got it.

What I've managed to do with it in three years.

Awesomeness. I was looking around at all my parted out junk and decided to sit this one out. I know we will see some hopelessly unfinished unicorns in this one. Good luck all!

I could participate into such a Project of the Month/Year : I stoped counting the started/unfinished project at 15, and I probably started another few... But I'm not sure that an unsorted set of parts from 3 different builds of a given car can pretend to participate into :-)
At least I see one interest into this thread : I'm far from alone procrastinating on some fo my projects (and procrastinating is just one single cause, finding a missing part can be another one)...
