Kyosho Lazer ZX

In 1989 Kyosho added a new 1/10 4wd electric off-road racing buggy to their lineup which they named the Lazer ZX. Built upon a double deck carbon fiber plate chassis with saddle pack battery mounting reliefs its long lower a-arms topped by spherical rod ended adjustable camber links at each corner provide a stiff base and ample suspension travel. A Uni-Crank twin bellcrank steering system with spherical ends on the tie rods put the zig in the ZX’s zag while a set of Kyosho Gold aluminum bodied oil-filled coilover shocks with adjustable spring collars mounted on carbon fiber towers smoothed out the ride and allowed the mid-motor belt driven 4wd system to launch the machine through corners and down the straights. Forgoing a multi-geared transmission the Lazer utilized a slipper clutch equipped pinion and spur primary drive mated to a belt driven transmission with a ball differential inside the sealed rear gearcase. A drive hub on the leading edge of the transmission turned the cogged belt that stretched forward, encased by a plastic shield, to the sealed front gearcase with its own one-way clutch front differential. A pair of universal axles up front and dogbones out back would take all the power and transfer it to the single piece 2in. yellow plastic Aerodish wheels with 265/65/20-M Bridgestone Sand Super front and 340/30/20-M Bridgestone Sand Super rear tires clawing for traction. A clear lexan buggy body, wing, undertray, plastic wing mount, front bumper, and full set of bearings were included in the unassembled kit, sold less electronics and radio:
