How about designing an RC10Talk-inspired Buggy Kit?

Hey everyone. I’ve been thinking—with all the talent, creativity, and deep RC knowledge we’ve got here on RC10Talk, what if we came together to design our own 1/10 scale buggy? A true community-built RC kit, developed by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts. It could be 12th scale, or 1/9 scale or something else unique or popular.
Here’s the rough idea:

Open collaboration: Members can pitch design ideas—chassis layout, suspension geometry, body style, materials, etc.
Voting system: We narrow down options and vote on each major component/decision to move forward democratically.
Prototype & testing: Once we finalize the design, maybe a few members with machining or 3D printing capabilities can help produce prototypes.
Production as a kit: If interest is strong, we could even offer it as a limited-run community kit—something special that RC10Talk built together. Proceeds could help support the site and some worthy cause.

Whether it’s retro-inspired, race-capable, or something totally new—this could be a chance to do something really unique and tap into all the amazing minds here.
Would anyone else be interested in making this happen?

For fun, here is an imaginary TB10 (Talk's Buggy 1/10th Scale Buggy) with a sturdy body, perhaps a chassis/body clip system, cooling vents...

There are a ton of reasons why this is a bad idea.

So when can we start?

Initial ideas.
A 1/10 scale car that would be a dirtoval/ street racer design. Flat plate chassis with limited suspension travel.
Metric hardware.

I think GoMachV has enough files on hand to print/cut everything but the metal parts, ballcups, and tires for an entire car, yeah?

Sabula (Mytimac) for the body, obviously.

What kind of car?
On road/ Off Road ?
Buggy / Truck / Sprint / Oval….?
4WD / 2WD ?
Mid or rear motor
Modem Vintage or all-in modern racer?
All new parts, or things like a-arms from something available like rpm?

My pitch would be:

1/10 buggy, since we are RC10Talk
2WD with easy conversion from rear to mid mid layout —> Team Durango hat some good ideas there
NO cab forward body
Modern geometry….

That would be MY starting point, but am open to other suggestions

I'm actually surprised nobody makes a direct drive offroad buggy like they do for dirt oval cars.

I think that'd be rad. A more modern buggy that can be rear motored as well could be VERY cool

On the surface this seems like an amazing idea until you realize the incredible amount of time, money, and logistics of it all. I imagine it's really only possible if you're a business that produces injection molded R/C parts for a living like those who are basically doing or have accomplished this idea already.

A more manageable approach might be to offer a conversion kit for an already produced buggy or some kind of simple flat plate vehicle like BoLink, MRP, or Parma were known for.

Parts could also be designed by members here that are then farmed out to someone like GoMachV for example to produce, sell, and ship for us in which a cut of the profit is shared. How cool would it be to have something like an RC10 battery strap that says RC10Talk on it like the Factory Works one? I think pretty cool.

I agree with all the points made above actually. It is hard, it's been done (to some degree), and not practical. I will add my own concern about our ability to vote and agree on our shared vision or engineering wish list. 2WD buggy seems like the right place to start with a hypothetical TC10 (Talk's Community 10th scale buggy?). For now, it's fun to see what features people would want in a hypothetical car (that is attractive, unique...etc).

My wish list for starters
1) Please bring back Orange colored A-arm / control-arms. Please not black and white anymore. Orange looks good against black tires as shown in the AYK buggies. The AYK Radiant and Boost a-arm designs (and the 93 YZ10) are still the coolest looking for me. Orange is easy to see on the track. Loved that simple strong design cue. No need for camber adjustment if you ask me.
2) Less complexity, fewer parts, fewer repairs, simple but tasteful design. We are not doing an IFMAR race machine, but something better looking/designed than a Genova.
3) Battery taken out from the bottom of the chassis (arghhh maybe there is a simple elegant way to do this lol). Make it easy to connect electronics from the bottom.

Here we start seeing the first differences in taste. Orange arms wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for me, but definitely not my choice. I also would like to keep adjustable camber links.

I agree on some level of donor parts.

Diff: 52 tooth dp48 like in the B5 / B6 AND in a Kyosho UMW604 AND Tamiya TA06

Gearbox wide enough to fit all of the diffs mentioned above. Narrow diffs need to be shimmed.

Gearbox needs to be flipable so symmetrical hole pattern to the chassis. 3 AND 4 gear option as mentioned above Durango did that with their DEX210 buggy

I also agree on a plate chassis, keep it simple.

Shock towers carbon fibre.

Front arms: from Traxxas Rustler(RPM or Traxxas also available in orange) but bring the chassis side hinges closer together to get back to buggy width.

Rear arms ?? I’d like to keep it Quadra symmetric so perhaps custom….

Have you seen the Latest Geforce XTRADA buggy? Honestly though, not really a fan of bottom mount batteries. Added complexity for no real benefit. As long as the body is easy to remove, this isn't really needed.
