Another question or two for you GT Pros

Were they always this fussy about the steering servo size? I planned to use Futaba S-U305 servos all around, but they're a bit too wide and the servo mounts don't line up with the chassis holes. I'm hoping they'll fit better on some of the other AE re-release kits I've accumulated, but I'm guessing it'll be the same outcome. Fortunately I had some spare Hitecs that fit a bit better, but I'd have preferred to run my Futaba set. You can even see the steering servo mounts in the promotional shots angled outwards due to their servo being too wide for the chassis holes, so it makes me wonder what dimensions they had in mind when they drilled the chassis. I'm temped to try the J.Concepts mount in the hopes it would work better with my Futaba servos, but I'm guessing I'll run into the same issue. Beyond that, I'm making progress (first nitro)!
Lastly, how many of you bother with the rubber grommets on 1/10 scale nitro? They're hard mounted at the moment, but I'm considering running them once I get longer 4-40 screws (the grommets are so thick they leave little thread to engage in the mounts). You can't run the included eyelets as the screws are too large, but I'm guessing the rubber alone would be helpful to dampen vibrations.
