For 1989 Tamiya took the gloves off their Grasshoper II 1/10 2wd electric off-road buggy and created, the Super G. Although the chassis and drivetrain would remain unchanged from the Grasshopper II as the Super G still used the same deeply molded ABS plastic tub featuring integrated shock towers, those towers would now support a full set of Tamiya's bright yellow oil-filled plastic bodied CVA coilover shocks. Long front swingarms along with the familiar z-bend tie rods, ballcups, and direct mount servo saver steering system remained, and the cars electronics continued to mount down the center of the tub above the bottom loaded longitudinally mounted battery. The Hornet style pivoting rear mounts that allowed the suspension to articulate throughout its travel, and the molded rigid axle housing with bolt on shock mounts that incased the pinion, spur, bevel gear differential, and metal axles were now asked to cope with the power of the Super G's larger 540 motor. Wide adapters connected the driveline to 12.5-20 Super Gripper 4x4 Racing rear tires, and Rib Spiked Super Gripper Racing fronts were added as well, all clinching for dear life to a set of single piece plastic phone dial wheels from the Wild One buggy, now molded in bright yellow. Retaining the Grasshopper II's modern style molded plastic body the unassembled kit was finished off by a large front bumper, mechanical speed controller, Mabuchi RS540 motor, and Big Daddy Evans driver figure:
