On April 17, 1994 Tamiya scheduled their first Tamiya Championship Series race, a 1/10 scale single make parking lot racing series. Created to bring more newcomers into the sport of RC racing through the use of Tamiya products the series limited winning of prizes to non-professional drivers. Competition for the initial race which was held on April 24th, 1994 included a total of 80 entrants across three different classes. Formula One - where contestants piloted F101, F102, and F103’s. 4WD & FWD - home to TA01, TA02, and FF01’s. And GTO/GTP - exclusively for Group C chassis cars. Each class was governed by a strict set of Stock and Modified rules and the subsequent free to enter regional races were held on a monthly schedule that offered the ability for contestants to win prizes from complete model kits all the way to a "Ticket to Japan" paid trip to compete in the Tamiya Championship Series Finals at their Shizuoka, Japan headquarters. While the track built for the inaugural race at Tamiya’s American headquarters closed on September 1st 2018 the Tamiya Championship Series is still going strong today allowing an expanded lineup of vehicles from their TA/TB/TC/TT/XV/MO/F104 lines to race and offering prizes from Hop Up’s and body’s to full kits and as always, the “Ticket to Japan” paid trip to race in the TCS Finals.

I've got a Tamiya TQ Certificate with my name on it somewhere and this bronze medal from a Bay Area TCS round.

I was leading half race, flipped over after clipping a corner too tight, dropped to 5th and fought my way back to 3rd. Good memories.
