OK so maybe I'm being really dumb right now, but I cannot for the life of me get a nut on this screw to hold the gear cover on. It just runs into the cover and won't screw on. Is there some sort of special nut that these covers use? I've looked online but can't find a good picture.

I always use a tie rod end on the front of Losi gear covers because the nylon nut is just too big and a pain to take on & off without removing the shock. But on that specific RPM cover, because space is even more limited, a Dubro #2160 works perfect.

you need a small pattern nut that has a 3/16 hex. I do something simalr to what Brad does though, I use a cut piece of a RPM rod end. Brad's idea is probably easier to deal with though

I forgot to mention, I don't thread the nut onto the screw I hold the nut over the hole with needle nose pliers and screw the screw into it.

Actually you just gave me an idea for my 3d printed gear cover, I should just make that part on the cover thicker and have the screw thread directly into the cover.

They aren't cheap, but they make some 4-40 lock nuts that use an even smaller 5/32 hex.

Only thing is, they are interference type lock nuts. Repeated installation and removal will damage the threads on the screw.

I don’t remember where I learned the tie rod trick.. probably from an old RCCA tech tip but it works great and you can remove it with your fingers.. no need to remove the shock or get a wrench. The problem with the stock Losi nylon nut is that it has a flange..which takes up more room.

A normal stock Losi or RPM hex tie rod end works great on all the other covers except for that specific #7307 RPM Hydradrive cover where the Dubro fits best.
