Wow, I've never seen that kit with belts, too. Awesome!

So this item was sold by Trinity and TRC here in the U.S. and from what I could tell, MANY companies in the UK and abroad. Were they all made by one company (I'm assuming)?

In Uk and holland they were distributed by MMS , but i think they were all the same.
I only used these diffs with the orange Trinity/wasp belt.

The superdiffs that Model Motor Sport sold were made by MMS themselves, so I presume they were rebranded as Trinity ones. The ones Jeroen has posted the picture of look like those are MMS header cards :D
Got an factory tour in one of my magazines somewhere.

Surely the hottest gearbox upgrade has to be the WASP high torque gearbox. 8)

Yeah, I sent Ian my list on Friday and he said he'd look this weekend. He thinks he has a lot of it. I haven't heard back from him yet, so we'll see. I'm still planning on grabbing that lot of used parts on eBay just in case, though. :)

So - what are your opinions on the best diffs for the cat? I am building two runners at the moment, which combination for an xls would be best for front/rear/integrator while not upgrading the whole rear end to a procat one.

Thanks for any input.

Phoenix for reliability, simplicity and easier maintenance not to mention a smoother transmission, I'd consider ditching the standard xls integrator and the diff in the layshaft. The front diff is ok, you can fit a procat front diff pulley which runs more diff balls giving a smoother action. Also there was a smaller overdrive front pulley available, if you can find it, to bias more power to the front.

The MMS/Trinity diff and one-piece layshaft work really well in a cat, only problem is no slipper. They take the earlier squarer (xls) toothed belt. They are machined and give a very smooth transmission. They are a huge improvement over standard xls transmission.

The procat three piece diff and matching layshaft are ok, you can get a replacement shaft for the layshaft to enable fitment of a slipper. These take the more rounded tooth high-torque belts. They are moulded.

One thing to use with either of the above setups is the hex-drive diff conversions that schumacher brought out. It replaced the glued diff rings (and carriers) with ones with center hexes for positive diff ring location. I always used to substitute the hex diff rings for losi JRX-2/pro ones, as they were a lot harder than the schumacher ones.

Another alternative would be to use the transmission out of a boss cat, as they had a decent slipper and were a lot better made than in the earlier schumacher cat models.

How's this for a late reply... over two years later?

I use a Bosscat rear diff with ceramic balls, 600 sanded washers and 4 large disc springs, Bosscat slipper, BRP orange long belt and MMS front diff. Works sweet.

Hi Dangermouse

I got hold of some alloy hex carriers. Is it worth fitting the Losi hex rings? How could you tell they were harder? Did they last longer / less scoring?

Cheers
