Ok we all know the RC10 came along and blew away the earlier Tamiyas etc as far as off road racing goes, but does anybody know what the first 1/10 scale buggy was? Was a it a Tamiya?

If you mean the first buggy with proper independent suspension then yes, the Tamiya Rough Rider was the first 1/10th electric buggy. There had been previous "buggies" which had basic or even no suspension, just large tyres, but the release of the Rough Rider in 1979 was the start of buggy racing as we know it.

The XR311 (1977) and Cheetah (1978) both have crude independent suspension (same chassis), there was a well supported off road club in my location in 1978 (and others around the country I believe) off road yes, buggies? well maybe not in the modern sense anyway, 1/10? no 1/12 but still the beginning I think :?:

The Rough Rider was preceded by the Kyosho Eleck Peanuts and Nitro Peanuts which were the first 1/10th off road buggies, but they only had a sliding kingpin front suspension and no rear suspension at all.
