What's in a name? Screen name that is.

So, I've been thinking about my screen name for the past 6 or so months. MelvinsArmy. For those of you who know me, you know my real name is Scott. Those who know me a little better know my favorite band is the Melvins. Hence, MelvinsArmy. A screen name I've had on all kinds of internet boards for I think about 7 years now. I think Clodtalk was the first place I used that name. My ebay ID is alissonchains, obviously I'm also a big fan of Alice In Chains.

I've been seriously thinking of changing my screen name(s) to something closer to my real name. Melvins are still my all time favorite band, and probably will be for many years to come. I don't mind people calling me Melvin on the internet. I'm just undecided if I should go ahead and change at this point. I think I want to do it. I know here, it would be a very smooth transition, pretty much everyone around here knows who I am. But, I know it's not the best idea to change your name on ebay, as scammers do that. I've had the same ebay ID since '01. But, on the flip side, my feedback is pretty much spotless at 603, so would people even notice? Then I'm thinking of other boards where I'm a member. Boards that have tens of thousands of people, and a name change might be harder to do, to keep in touch with people I've known for a while, and what if people use both boards, see that I have two different screen names (if I don't change everything) will they think I'm a scammer or anything like that? And of course then I just think I'm thinking about this way too much and should just go ahead and do it.

I know Ferretti recently changed his name on here, seems to have been pretty easy for him. Did you change your name anywhere else?

Thoughts? Opinions?

I ran the same screen name here as other forums (even the avatar & location) so others that
knew me would speak highly (sort of) here, but now that you mention it---
1) the Melvins hold nothing to Jets to Brazil :P
2) I request my screen name be changed to "Charlie don't Surf", after my imaginary band

Any imaginary band named after a good Robert Duvall quote sounds good to me. 8) Change it!

I thought you got your handle because of what you do to all the little kids you sneak up behind them and give them a Melvin! :P

I prefer calling people by their user name, I respect their right to privacy. Even when I know what their real name I'm more comfortable using the alias. Whatever you decide, you'll always be Lil' Mel to me. :P

Geez, Halgar you've known me since I was just a wee little internets tyke. Now I'm all growed up.

I'm not concerned about privacy really at this point. Heck, if you click on the link to my webpage in my sig, you could probably figure out anything you want about me.

Erich, The Melvins STILL rule. They're touring this summer, go see them. You can bet I'm going to see them. 8)

Hmm, doesn't look like it this time around. I know they've played Philly a few times in the past, and on their last tour. Looks like the closest will be NYC, Cleveland or Baltimore.

The artist formerly known as "reghammer" is now "Charlie don't surf".

That was easy.

So, should I, or shouldn't I?
