"Kyosho Hotshot"

I bet that title will draw some attention and hope the visitors won't be dis-appointed :P

Image
The base of this project is an almost stock turbo ultima, with custom-made top-plate carrying the hotshot body work. The shocks are yokomo 9X 'works units with contemporary tamiya springs.
Front and rear axle carriers/steering knuckles originate from the optima series for a wider track.
The wider track was needed to compensate for the narrow offset of the white hotshot rims

Image
A kyosho gold Lemans seemed appropriate for showcase pictures. Note the doubled shocktowers also.

Image
The associated driver figure is huge and the steering wheel and headrest are badly centered relative to the side pods. Not an easy fit but he looks like he feels right-at home now. Thside-pods were extended to carry the number tag on race days.

Image
Current livery is just cheap packing tape and should get replaced with decent Parma racing checkers decals soon. The Koi-fish decal is a fake tattoo. the paint schedule was kept extreme simple ( 2-tone rattle can job) to go well with different decals over time.

Haha, thanks for commenting in both places also

Ofcourse rc10talk.com got the scoop, but when I discovered copying the thread to the TC forum was as simple as copy/pasting the post source... well it's always nice to reach a larger public with little extra effort.

Tip: If you want to do the same: it only was this easy because I'm using an external host for the pics which turned out to work for both forums.

Hmm...is this to be read like:

1) "Show us, naked one." Referring to Mr Ed as "Naked One"

or

2) "Show us a naked one. Referring to a naked pic of the Kyosho Hotshot.

Another interesting creation Erik. You just need to get rid of that lemans and throw in a technipower. and how about some yellow CVA shocks also.

Creep!
I did play with a mono-shock set-up for both the front and rear. Both worked, but not well enough for my taste.

For racing I'll replace the battery holders with tape and and the tire and wheel combo with ultima RB5's. All easy and quick to do. Switching from the monoshocks would be too much trouble really.

I'll see what I can do for a little striptease... now you can discuss again how that should be understood

bit more of a dissection than a striptease ;)

Image
The shell barely covers half of the car. The custom trimming took a long time. I needed to trim more than normal; to fit the more forward mounted accu for example, but didn't want it over-done either.

Image
"scratch my belly'

Image
Why do people say the ultima lloks like a B5, it's the other way round !

Image
Not meant to come off, but especiall for the pics...

Image
Made of 3mm thick frp I had left. One day I'll lighten it up: won't make so much difference over the toatal weight, but should help lowering the CG a bit

Image
My favourite chassis

Image
The roll-cage mounts and body mounts.

Image
The rear cage mounts are standard servo mounts and hidden by the driver and custom numberplates.
The driver is mounted on a strip of lexan which is double taped to the topdeck.
Loosening only 1 of the nuts is enough to fold the battery 'bumpers" aside and slide a fresh battery in

Image
The optima rear carriers and 10mm longer U-J's for the narrow offset hotshot rims

Image
Luckily I found these replacements as the original plastic parts had a lot of play on the lower hinge. The M3 thread on the steering knuckles was stripped so I tapped M4 instead. An old trick I used on many kyosho cars already.

Image
The low-profile servo, with receiver double-face taped on the other side. The steering was bought from A01butal: Factory works for the YR-4. topped of with a link of the Maxxum FF and some mixed yokomo parts to extend the posts to the top deck. Note also the third body post. They came as a set : option parts by cross for tamiya F1 I think.

The steering is a bit aggressive now, Probably the most important thing to get worked on before I can take it to its first race

Hey Erik I was about to say that I really liked the build and especially like the Hotshot styling. Paint job is really cool and then in the last picture I noticed you mentioned the Factory works steering kit. Glad you got some use out of it looks like you gotten to be quite good at adapting to make things work.

That's one of the nicest compliments I got lately. Thankyou.
I could tell from your pics this steering kit is plenty adaptable.
Still, give me some more time and I may still pick -up those tubes and rhino parts from you to get something a little less aggressive.

Already have 2 or 3 other projects in my head that may take the FW kit a little better. So don't be surprised to see it appear elsewhere ;)
