The stampede is one of the most durable rc's I've ever owned. I got the last kit my lhs had right as traxxas went all rtr. I think it was 2001.

I had an XL1 Stampede that I picked up used for the kids to run ragged. They had fun with it but moved on and I let it go a couple months ago to help fund some brushless systems.
I do race an XL1 Rustler in mod truck at the local track and actually took 1st in a points series last summer. It's not the fastest truck, but it's consistent and rugged-- just like the Stampede.
There is something to be said for a runner that you can hand the tx to just about anyone and you don't have to sweat every move they make!
Oh- and here's an old pick of the Stampede (I put an XL5 body on it for the kids):

i got one for my kid when he was 7-8. the only thing he ever managed to break on it was the front bumper. i took out that crappy traxxas esc and stinger motor out in favor of an lrp esc and a 17 double. it runs pretty good.

I had a first gen pede once, I hated it!! I traded for 10T2 parts and built the powder coated blue T2 I have that sits on a shelf.

I had a couple of Stampedes & Rustlers throught the years. They are great trucks, if you can get your ego past the fact that they are not high-end purpouse-built racing machines. Unfortunately most people here just can't appreciate them (or anything Traxxas for that matter) for what they are.

Oh those, I bought them and the rims specifically, Stampedes have odd offsets etc, they were road tyres for my tarmac running

Along with blue rims, I sold it with stock they are still in storage

RPM CLAWZ in Blue
and indeed Proline Striker II Street tyres
