got a gen 1 kyosho ultima...
want to restore it to runner, but use modern wheels and tires...
What are my options for Front Buggy Wheels, and hex rears.
i would really like it if i could place a order for like 5 sets and not have to search for months on ebay for some originals lol
If i need to buy like conversion parts from another kyosho to retrofit them, thats cool, but any advice would help or pictures cause im not terribly famialiar with kyosho stuff

See my reply on that other forum for the cheapest and easiest to get with the benefit of matching rears and fronts as well.
Another option is to buy some RB5 material for the front: C-carriers, knucles, axles and bearings, crosspin and hexes. Then you can use RB5 wheels all-around.
Maybe the academy 2wd buggy has compatible wheels or the the new HB's 2wd that should come out sometime this month (hopefully)

I can help by saying that you can buy the CRP Front stub axles 1712 which mount Tamiya wheels to Ultimas,(Check Team CRP on ebay) that way you can use standard wheels and tires for the front, just have to get the right size bearings for those axles, which I would have to check my PM's to remember what size they are, Tower has tons of them I know.

yep, that was the solution I porposed on the other forum: cheapest and simplest in combination with sandviper or desert gator wheels sets.

Well, maybe Mike is a Kyosho snob and only wants Kyosho parts?

Tamiya parts on Kyosho, that's like Nissan parts on a Toyota or Ford on a Chevy.

He can still glue kyosho rubber on the wheels
I have tried both and personally like the CRP option better. To keep it legal width for racing you need narrow front tires though if you want to use wide andy's front arms or the wide axles of CRP.
standard front arms are a better fit and give you more equal width front and back.
(The tamiya rear wheels reduce the total width of the car by 6mm compared to an identical setup but with RB5 rear wheels)

Anyone has any more ideas? i am trying to stay with the stock front and rear axles n my T Ultima. i think that the start wheels from HPI work.

i used rulux wheels on my T. Ultima, I even used Tamiya wheels...I just bought specific sized bearings to mount it on the ultima. There were some minor modifications on the rulux wheels though because the bearings i got were around 1mm thicker than the B4 stock bearings, so I had to grind down the inner wheel bearing seat a bit.
for the tamiya wheels, the bearings are bigger in outer diameter. basically, the only parts i bought to mount different wheels on my t. ultima are the bearings, 4 pieces for each brand of wheel. BUT that is only for the front wheels
for the rear, tamiya basically has the same wheel hub, it's the offset which varies. but i also used rulux wheels on the rear..i just changed my cvds to match the b4's....i must admit though, my solution for the rear part is not so simple as the front, and i am still modifying it 'til now.

stock wheels for the original ultima are pretty slim pickings when it comes to modern wheel sizes...
i really wish HPI would make the 5 Star rims in fronts again with adapters. obviously everyone doesnt like 5 star rims BUT they fit onto everything

i loved the old HPI super star wheels. I sent them an email and suggested they start making them again, in 2.2" sizes for retro-modern vehicles, since they already make the rears that fit alot of things.
I got a reply, she basically said they they don't have a vehicle in their lineup that uses them, so they don't 2wd fronts(duh), but that the suggestion would be passed on to the design team(maybe?, not likely).
anyone who liked them, and would like them, should email them the same thing, maybe showing some interest will generate some results! Looks like it might be working for MIP, so who knows....

i have in the past also suggested that, to no luck at all.
