G'day guys, had my first drive of my rc10 today at St Ives RC track. Let me just say that coming from driving a Tamiya Frog, the RC10 is FRIGGIN FANTASTIC!!!! It goes where u point it, has loads of suspension travel, doesn't bounce all over the place. I simply love it!

I also had my first drive of my HotShot, It looks absolutely gorgeous on the track! Watching all that suspension working, the chrome wheels shining in the sun! Awesome!

I also brought out my 959 to stretch it legs, lets just say , it's going back on the shelf to be an ornament. After driving the RC10 & hotshot the 959 is such a let down. The best place that I have found for the 959 is the beach. Sad but true.

Yup, that 959 model was a, well, a pretty bad design. Too bad it didn't replicate the 1:1 of the time in some scale. Beautiful pics by the way. I love the action shots!

Looks sweet, should handle even better with some newer tyres too!

The only way I could get my wife to take such pics is using nylon strings to keep the car mid-air

Are the re-re shocks of the hotshot really better than the original as tamiya claims?
And are they still using those super-fast wearing balls to keep the kuckles between the front arms?

It was more of a joke. But when we thrashed one back in the day I remember that is had limited suspension travel and got hung up easily.

The Porsche 959 was kit number 59 from Tamiya. A 1/12 scale 4WD rally car, it was perhaps one of the most detailed and sophisticated cars ever to be produced by Tamiya.

Description

This car is a must have and a must see! The engineering that went into the design of this car was amazing. The fact that Tamiya launched it fully loaded with a ball bearing kit, Technigold motor and an incredible lexan body only makes it that much more desirable.

The car is one of firsts for Tamiya. The chassis that the Porsche 959 was based on was engineered from a clean slate, it shares no components with any previous Tamiya design. Front and rear double wishbone suspension system with miniature oil filled aluminum dampers and coil springs. It all had to be extremely compact because Tamiya chose to make this car a 1/12 scale instead of the usual 1/10. This meant that the 959 wheelbase was far shorter than normal (211mm) and is very close to a modern day M-chassis Tamiya (225mm).

Reason I write this is because of the one I remember way back then. I guess when you are a kid you don't see what a marvel it was.

Good to see you running at St Ives - in my opinion this is the spiritual home of buggy racing in Australia.

I did warn you that once you drove a competition based vehicle a whole new world would open up!! The RC-10 is a great car to drive - no matter how old the model.

As for the 959 - its an awesome car - as is its upgraded brother the Celica GRB. You have to remember that these are 1/12 scale sized cars - therefore are not really suited to the jumps that the other larger brothers are capable of handling. The suspension arms at the front are particularly weak - but for a model of its size and serious speed - it does extremely well. No other manufacturer has made a car like the 959 and GRB.

Jak - I picked up another 959 - (jjjjeeeeeez - I just cant help myself), to go along with my GRB runner - hopefully we can run these together next time we catch up....I have the full light set hooked up to my GRB, looks awesome driving around.

Can u bring your Celica to Ryde on the 23rd? I'd like to get them together lights blazing for some pics.
The RC10 sure is sweet to drive, I just put a stock 540 in the back though just to have a run, will have a sports tuned for November though.

My 8 year old son strung 3 really nice clean laps together around St Ives track! I think I might enter him instead of me!

There were some older kids there with some truggy thing? They had a good hard stare at the RC10 hotshot & 959, they probably hadn't seen them before LOL!

superb photos jak, that hotshot is blinding, i remember a 959 racing at a local track up on the sunshine coast of brisbane,it just blew away bigwigs and hotshots with its sheer speed, so your loving a real race buggy, the rc10 ha? good work brother
