the optima alloy wheel guy (
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130261010483) is making alloy outer rims for #6854 wheels. my first idea I gave him was larger #6850 sytle wheels.
I noticed yokomo put 2.2" tires with 2.1" #6854 wheels in japanese version RC10 box. they attached single layer of thick 3M tapes inside of the the plastic rings to hold the tires tight. I tried same thing on mine, and it works fine with 2.2" tires. yes, front rims got fixed.
on the rear wheels, it's easy to make original style outer rims for #6804 wheels. and, still have problem with getting the right size tires.
do you guys have any good idea on rear wheels size?
1.9" is good for using inner rims and rings of #6804
2.2" 1 piece is good for recent tires, but has tire gluing issue.

the plastic rings in the top 2 pics are from yokomo kit. tapes were added insides.
and, the rest are rear rims 3D design.

i wish i has a bit more input here, cause this is a great project that im sure will sell really well..
my suggestion, and i dont know if anyone else will agree here etc..
Make a 2.2" Front/Rear Rim Set, with front and half backs, to use modern tires, on a classic rc10 1/4" axle.
1.9 and 1.6 Tires are impossible to find, other than some tamiya models etc. There is obviously the resto crowd that will love these rims in the original size... but having them in modern size wheels would be incredible too i think.. just my 2 cents..

i was always hoping too that there would be a Ultima set of Rims too, same as the optima rear, just a set of fronts that would fit a buggy front wheel

as mike said, 1.9 and 1.6 tires are hard to find. but, it'd be nice to get a set of these for the original rc10. my only suggestion would be, if possible, to add the jelly bean slot's to the inner rear rim. that way when they're put together, you can see through them..... just like the fronts. if it's not possible to make them like that, you should just make them 1 piece rims instead of 3. then it shouldn't be an issue.

I have been also been thinking of re making these wheels along with the rps and srb wheel halfs wasn't sure how they would do, I would think that the best thing to do would be to make a small run of the originals 100 sets and go from there.

100 sets might be a tough sell, but possible.
SRB stuff i find is popular obviously, wheel halfs should do well, but lately not too many people are buying, especially within the US. money is tight. I find people drool over this stuff, but when it comes time to lay out the $100+ for it, they arent so fast on the trigger which is sad.
I sold about 30 items on ebay last week, i had to fill out 22 different green customs forms for overseas buyers, and the stuff didnt even sell that high really. Not trying to dismay anyone.. but its definetly not a sellers market right now. Hell i pass up stuff all the time now that a year ago i woulda payed through the roof for. Been holding onto my money for really rare stuff only and basic stuff that pops up.
anyone back on topic, definetly see through "jellybeans" would be sweet for the rears.

I would agree with you on that, but the good thing with the wheel halfs is you run the slugs and complete the lathe work for the 100 sets then when it comes to the milling you can change the design very easily with no real cost difference.

i know one thing. i wouldn't even waste time making just outer wheel halves. anyone who is gonna shell out as bunch money is not going to attach them to an old set of inner hubs. and with how hard new original rims are to find (rc10's anyway), and expensive when you do, i don't think they'd be a huge seller. a complete 1 or 3 peice wheel would be a much better investment, in my opinion.

The one thing that I found bad with those aluminum optima wheels that pargu2000 is making is the weight of the wheels there find for a shelfqueen but not a runner he needs to take off those ribs so foams can be added which would remove alot of weight.

the beauty of the wheel halfs is that you can sell the booth as a 2 pc or as just the outer halfs

The other thing I was thinking of that would add some scale look to the wheels, is to add a disc brake that would mount between the two jelly bean halfs and you anodize the discs in different colors.
