I've been wanting to build a true "heavy metal" RC10 for quite some time. Well, I decommissioned the RC10 Scorcher a while ago and some of those parts went to this project. Namely the unusual transmission. It's a Stealth transmission in an aluminum case. Never seen another like it. Originally i had planned to make this a true era-correct first generation monster truck conversion. Actually, a kind of pre-kit conversion conversion with some home made parts. But, as I started gathering parts I realized that I would actually want to run this truck, so I traded a few era correct pieces that would not be practical for a truck that is going to get run. (run, not abused) I think I did a pretty good job of staying in the spirit of the original heavy metal class trucks. Really the only things that aren't in line with the first monster conversions is the tranny and the electronics that are from only a couple years later. I stuck with the original short front arms to keep the narrow stance, kept the short buggy shocks on all around. I made the rear body mount out of aluminum angle and two AE body mounts. The front is a chopped CRP mount with an aluminum plate and Bolink post. I couldn't bare to leave that ugly CRP post on there, plus this way the post lines up with the Blackfoot body hole. The front bumper is from Andy's. Most of the rest of the truck is a stock 6010, except for the front axles, Losi aluminum bellcranks, wheels and tires. The wheels are NOS Sees, they were in the package when I got them. Fortunately Imex is making the same tires they made over 20 years ago, so I have some fresh vintage rubber. The electronics are a Novak 610-HRV, a Futaba S-3004 and an Airtronics AM radio and receiver. The motor is a new Reedy.
I think that pretty much sums it up. Heavy Metal is my favorite vintage genre, it's nice to have one again. Last time I had one was my converted Jrx2 that I'd run during the oval racing off season. Sorry for the shotty pics, I haven't had a chance to get it out in the daylight to get some nice pics. The color looks much nicer in person, it's candy red.
