i spent some time talking to chad at dynotech yesterday about making some of the discontiued parts for the rc10. i was going to send some stuff to him so he can get an idea of what it would take to produce them, and to get an idea of what the street price would be.

now, the first things that came to my mind was the rear bulkheads and the rear arm mounts. CF shock towers, trans braces, etc would all be easy. maybe even shock towers so b4 shocks are a direct fit. i did talk to him about doing trans cases for the 2.25, which he said he could do. but the more i thought about it, eventually the diff rings, diff gear, and outdrives are gonna be discontinued too. so then someone would have to make them. although there are a couple dirt oval guys who make outdrives for the 2.40 and 2.60 trans, i don't know if they'd want to waste there time designing parts for a 20 year old car.

so anyways, what kind of stuff would you like to see?

Good work. Its always good to see some getting parts back in production. It would not be that hard for them to use the later internals on a classic style drans. I suspect all there parts would be CNC so they will probably prefer to simply the shapes rather then do direct replacements anyhow.

another cool thing will be that these parts can be machined in dyeable white or black.

How about a redesigned battery box...little wider/longer(in front of the screw mounts) allready notched to go along with the rear bulkhead?

trailing arms? i think that would be awfully expensive. i mean i could send him some andy's parts that he could copy, but they wouldn't work on anything but an andy's chassis. or a copy of an andy's chassis.

i also talked to him about making chassis'. to make a flat chassis that used the factory nose plates (like the a&l, tekin, hot trick, etc.) would be like $85. but don't quote me on that. he also said he can get a sheet of CF made with the 30 degree kickup, to make some chassis'. but the price would be considerably more (around $150... again don't quote me on that), because of the extra time to jig it up for drilling. plus the extra cost for the CF sheet with the 30 degree kickup molded in. even if it was that price, it's cheaper than the available CF tub... and it's all one piece.

jay here is a thought on the tranny cases you could mention. how about making it like the G.F.R.P. cases that dustin makes over at dirtoval ? you know it would look like and bolt in like the stock 2.25 but use the larger style diff gear from the b4 so you could use newer diff hard ware and increase the tranny ratio all at the same time. either way if it is stock 2.25 or GFRP style i would buy like 3 of them for my weekly racers.

i had thought of using the 2.40 diff gear. custom works still uses that in their electric cars right? so, even if down the road you couldn't get it from asc, you could still get it from them. but anyway, if you used the 2.40 diff it would have to be raised up inside the case so that the chassis wouldn't have to be notched. now doing that, to keep the topshaft were it is, you'd have to move the idler gear towards the back of the bulkhead. but moving all of that stuff around, i think the gears would interfer with the case screws. the whole goal is to keep all of the mounting points the same so you can still use the 2.25 motor plate.

i have faith that if chad wanted to try it, he could figure something out.

is he going to be making rear arm mounts in 0 and 1.5 degree? that would be ideal.

Yeah the problem is the 2.25 was a compromise fitting the biggest diff gear possible while still using the 6 gear motor plate. They should've just made a proper motor plate to begin with.. Maybe you could do a 2.4 or 2.6 diff gear & idler without the idler in line with the diff and top shaft but you'd need to have the bottom screw holes elsewhere and redrill the motor plate.

What about C/F chassis that are cut to shape but not drilled? Like you said, the holes are where most of the cost comes from. Most of us have old chassis that could be used as templates and it would also allow us to choose the parts we wanted to use. ie: 6 gear/stealth, battery position etc.

that would be cool and definatly the cheaper route but you might want to make sure the chassis is wider next to the sides of the noseplate so rc10gt style nosebrace tube mounts could be used to keep the nose's from bending. unless chad has another way of bracing the front end.

this is my only complaint about having to use a noseplate............

let's say that it would cost $85 for a chassis. now, if i'm gonna spend that kind of money on a new chassis, i'm gonna want to have a new nose plate on it. now if i didn't have one, the going rate for new nose plates is $40-50. so, i'd already be up to $125-135. plus another $10 or so for nose brace tubes and gt mounts. at that point, it would be easier to just get a chassis with the kickup molded in for around $150. plus, having a one piece CF chassis would rock.
