As you may know, this is the buggy that i got for a $35 bin a few weeks ago. I have disassembled it for cleaning and have been trying to remove the stubborn blue metallic paint overspray from literally everything! I made a simple repair on the front battery hold down attach points by putting a long screw completely through the post and 2 new countersunk holes in the bottom of the chassis. I may do something a little nicer looking repair later but this looks ok I think and it's super strong. Still bits of blue paint on things here and there and quite a bit of polishing remains. I tend to hop from one project to another as the mood takes me so the project goes in fits and starts. The control arms are pretty badly yellowed but otherwise in good shape. The wheels are surprisingly nice considering what they looked like and will be better when I remove most of the divots from the edges. My main concern at this point is getting all the hardware to a usable state. I soaked all of it in WD40 for a week which has helped but there is still a lot of mind numbing hand work to do.

Hey! I have an idea! Let's spray the wheels with paint while they're still on the car!!!

Did I see this car for sale on eBay some time ago?
How lazy does lazy get? Spray painting a body on the outside,without even removing it from the car?

Yep, you did see it on Ebay. There was another thread started on here in the Ebay thread called "get it quick"... so I did. I guess one has to wonder what goes through people's minds when they decide that a very heavy, quickly applied, zero prep paint job on top of existing dirt is an improvement over clean plastic. Then again, a lot of the cars that I have were probably last owned by 10-15 year-olds with limited experience with a rattle can. I remember painting model cars with a brush and wondering why they didn't look like the box art. Here's close up before and after wheel pictures. (Yes the front wheels were installed inside out) I think this car will be sweet when I'm done. What I'd dearly love to find though are the wheel covers that came stock on this car. I know, good luck with that!

Nice job ! Those are cool cars. Seeing a few of them lately. I like when projects come really messed up. Add some hard work and some elbow grease along with a few serious hours of labor and you have a nice buggy. That one something i really like about the hobby , the hobby part.

it might be easier to find the losi version of those wheelcaps.
And I agree, you did a splendid job cleaning this up, my hat comes off for you

A bit of an update:
Re-assemply is stalled because i don't have any more of the right screws. There were any number of pan head screws being used where a countersunk screw head was called for. Please keep in mind that this is just a good cleaning and reassembly - not a restoration effort. Every part of this car had blue paint over spray on it, no exceptions. It took a lot of scrubbing just to see some of it. I got most of it off but there are some spots like the front arms that won't be cleaned by any method I've found so far. The camera keeps picking out more spots too. I'm afraid this will never be a beauty queen. Oh yeah, I edged the shock towers with black permanent marker because the paint was deeply impregnated into the fiberglass and it wasn't coming off.

My brother has one that is just gathering dust. I think I may have to remove it from his possession. I helped him get it about 90% restored.

Hey guys, could one of you that know tell me if the a-arms on this car will accept dye? I am quite unhappy with their yellowness never mind the blue over spray that I can't get out. Since they're not going to get any better I think I'd like to dye them black.

Hm...I don´t know really... ...I´ve heard about white parts turning purple after a while but maybe these can take it...

Blue would match that motor mount as well.....
