I am building a new xx4 that I got and am having trouble with the belt system. I have the trivetrain assembled diff to diff and it is very difficult to turn the belt system.. does not seem right but I've checked everything and all seems correct. Any ideas?

they are pretty tight. get a decent speed brushed motor (12 turn maybe?) install it with about a 19-20T pinion, then hook up a 4 cell battery pack directly to the motor (make sure the wheels are off the ground!!). let it spool up, run for 30-45 seconds, disconnect and let it come to a rolling stop. do this a few times, remove the motor and check the "free-ness" of the drivetrain. if you are still in a "bind"....box it up and send it to ME!!!!
seriously (after trying the above), take it apart slowly and check each and every bearing to make sure none are seized. if all the bearings are good, check the fit of the layshafts into the bearings, it should not be a tight press fit, but not wiggle when inside...if need be, polish the shafts where they ride in the bearings.
