Got the truck off of Mr. lexan a while back... New chassis, missing the wheels, tires, and body. I have everything lined out as far as that goes. Ordered a McAllister hardbody body I will paint in the red/white/blue format with Bud and Nissan decals. I will post the end result whenever I get done with it.

I always loved the look of those trucks with the original body, They were more of a lifted truck look rather than race truck.

I have one thats almost complete, another thats in pieces. Id like to restore it as well. Its one of my fav. kits.

Need some input.

I have planned the Roger Mears Bud, red white and blue scheme in mind on this truck. I plan on using the McAllister body as the OE is way too expensive when they do sell. Here is my dilemma: I hate the look of the OE yellow shocks with the R/W/B paint scheme. I do have a set of the black CVA shocks I am going to use (maybe) off of my CR-01. They would look better in my opinion, but how wrong would it be to swap these newer shocks out with the old "correct" ones in yall's opinion? The yellow CVA's are in new condition. Give me a collective direction.

Put some Duratrax threaded shocks on it, their like 12 bucks a set and look great and come in 4 colors?

Tamiya did offer similar, I don't know if there are the exact length, CVAs in red. You could look for those.

No offense fellas, but if I were going to put aluminum on it, I would go for the Tamiya dampers of that era. Serious coin though. Reds would be choice, I'll have to kep an eye out. Anybody here want to swap out a set of reds with my yellows?



Seems Tamiya had their head up their pooper when they decided with the shock colors for those two trucks. Seems yellow for the hilux, and red for the Nissan would make more sense. Oh well.

depending how long the cva's are, if these are close in length, i'd throw a set of the rc4wd shocks on it with internal springs. i think they'd look pretty sweet.

I don't have any left, but this is what used a set for a long time ago.

I know I have the RCCA with the "Project King Cab" in it, but I think it must be back home in my parent's attic. It would be interesting to see what they used on that truck. I do have the 1/91 issue where they test it's brother, the Hi-Lux in it, and ironically enough it appears to be sporting the same wheels that you have on yours. It also has yellow shocks.

For shocks, I'd try to find some old black and red or black and silver Kyosho plastic oil dampers from that era. I think they'd look great with your body colors. Or, even better would be the Kyosho platinum shocks if you can find them. Another option might be the Trinity blue anodized Clod shocks. Also, the Traxxas shocks from that era were white, which also might look good on that truck, if you can find some clean ones. Then, there is always AE and Losi shocks, which would probably be the most realistic upgrade for that era, along with the Kyosho shocks. There are so many choices for shocks from that era, I don't really see any need to put "new" shocks on it. "Keep it real" I say.

I believe they were the Kyosho golds if I'm not mistaken. Those would be nice. Also very expensive, but nice.
