A Little Tranny Help?

No,I don't need help with "gender reassignment surgery"!
The left outdrive on my Monster Beetle has a gap between the base of the outdrive cup and the plastic bearing carrier and it makes the left rear suspension bind slighlty.
I've rebuilt the tranny three times,as per the instructions, but the gap, arrowed crudely by me in the photo, remains.
Any advice? Suggestions?
That don't involve a dremel and shortening the outdrive?!

I had the same problem...with the transmission

It kept binding, so I placed a very thin shim between the diff gears so that it wouldn't bind. I also shortened the outdrives.

If this is a runner, you may want to use the new dog bone set up that came with the re-released frogs. You can still use the old rubber dog bone cover to keep it looking original (and keep the dirt out).

Hope this helps,

I just saw your last line about not using a dremel. You can put a shim (washer) between the outdrive and the plastic bearing holder (both sides). I personally don't like this solution because you can see the washer and there may be excessive heat because of the friction.

Many,many,many thaks Highway! :D
I don't think I'll shim it,these trannys have a habit of 'spreading',anyway.
I think I'll just shorten the outdrive and be done with it...Freakin' Tamiyas!
Have they ever heard of something called 'tolerances?!
I guess not...

I had a similar problem, different, maybe..... I rebuilt a trans with some new gears and the stupid thing just won't work. So I found some old gears, cleaned them up and it worked fine. Took them back out for comparison purposes and couldn't find any differences. Put the new gears back in one more time to make sure, same binding result. I was frustrated to say the least. I never did figure out what the problem was and I just ended up using the old gear set.
