I just bought a new in packet HydraDrive.I'm wondering what I should use for fluid-Will silicone shock fluid work?
Is so,what viscocity should I use? I have a bottle of every weight fluid Losi offer.
I'm thinking maybe I should leave it new in packet...I don't think I can resist building it,though...They're just too geeky cool!

Wasn't there a bottle of Hydra-Drive fluid in the kit? It's not silicone shock fluid. Somewhere there is a post about this subject but I don't remember what it was titled, maybe just do a search on "Hydra" or something like that. Number 1 thing you should know is that if it's for a shelfer maybe just don't fill it. They have a history of leaking so for the shelfer that's an option. If you can't find any other solution that's workable I have 3 bottles nip of the Hydra-Drive Solution you could pm me me but maybe something else is usable.

somebody mentioned silicone diff fluid in a thread way back, so I used some 10000 kyosho diff fluid I happened to have. It feels ok, but I haven't gotten to run it yet. not that I've ever run one in the past with proper losi fluid to compare.

if your not gonna use the car, leave it dry. just rub a little oil on the o-rings when you put it together so they don't dry out.

Losi made 2 or 3 grades of fluid from light to heavy, but they never specified what it was exactly. Like scr8p said leave it dry if it's for a shelfer just put some shock oil on the seals. Most tracks these days you wouldn't really benefit from having it on your car except the extra rotating weight helps smooth out some really fast motors to make them easier to drive. I ran mine all the time in mod for the flywheel effect, I just turned my throttle trim up to a slow creep to keep the car from slowing too abruptly

Now I realise why the entire bag,the header card and it's contents are all sticky!
It's missing the bottle of fluid-I guess it leaked.
Think I'll assemble it with a little shock fluid on the seals and install it on the shelfer...After I let it all dry out!

We used to run Losi hydra fluid on 1/12 cars for damper tubes and plates. The Hard stuff is probably about 10K, Med, around 5K, maybe 7, and the light should be about 2K. That is a rough guess based on what we used for an equivalent when they stopped making hydra fluid.

Nice one,that's good info to have!
I left what HydraDrive fluid there was left on all of the rubber O'' rings,dried the rest off and built it dry.
I was thinking about a modern equivalent of a HydraDrive,or some other sort of traction aiding device,when I saw Losi' new 'SmartDiff'.

Different design, but functionally that’s sorta like a Torsen differential.

Hydra Drive equates to an automatic tranny Torque Converter, with lockup even.

Why I got into this mess to begin with, amazed at the scale technology. Cool stuff. Sadly I'm never going to own a full size car with carbon fibre, titanium, yada yada.

Right on,it is like a Torsen.

Never say never,man...You can build anything you want,with enough time,tenacity,tools and money!

I found 3 (NIP) bottles of Hydra Fluid (light,med,heavy) a hobbyshop last week.
Are they worth anything? Put them on the 'bay?
