Has anyone ever used acetone to remove tyres from old school HPI 5 spoke wheels? Want to take some worn tyres off but not if if it trashes the wheels.

Cheers,

Ian

It actually depends on the color of the wheel. White wheels are safe for acetone, but some of the other colors may not be. I have the green wheels and I'm pretty sure that those are a slightly different material.

hope this helps....

i heard if your gonna use acetone you dont dunk em in it you just suspend them over the acetone so the fumes do the work.
but i have not tried this technique yet.

Hmm, they're black wheels. I use acetone all the time for my racing buggy wheels and so far have had no problems at all. However the HPI wheels are particularly flimsy and I'm worried they're made of a different material from modern Proline wheels.....

bearrickster, I went ahead and tried acetone on the wheels and can confirm that Vintage HPI 5 spokes are acetone proof, if anyone else needs to know :-)
