what to change in a 6gear trans rebuild??

i have a few 6gear trans i want to take apart and maybe replace the center gears..what else should i look to replace?? i never "rebuilt" these before . what should i look for, any tips??

there are some scans in the scan section, for specifically tweaking/rebuilding the 6 gear. I believe one is by cliff lett, and there are others.

bottom line is:
clean
ball bearings
outdrive bearings
file gears for rough casting/machining edges
clean clean clean!

there are some mods with regards to the outdrive bearings, there are a couple different methods out there, if it's not a runner, you can simply build it as stock with the felt seals and retainers.

the jammin jay rebuild and the losi diff tube place bearings in a couple different spots and improve on a couple of items that aren't really that critical unless in hard competition.

yea i was wondering about what to do to that diff /top shaft set up too. i didnt think i had to file gears.. ill try to find that post your talking about ..thanks

thanks alot for the links..do you think doing the set screws in the diff is worth it for a back yard runner?

I don't think so, if you take good care of it and follow Halsey's tips, you have an almost bulletproof tranny for bashing
