RichieRich's still old but newer RC10
Hey guys: Before I start, I'm not done yet. I thought I'd post a few pics anyways. This is my version of the RC10 with newer parts we're all building. I call it an RC10 Evo. I've used the Dynotech suspension arms to fit B4 wheels/tires and a B4 top shaft with slipper clutch. While building, I noticed a few things that the huge thread doesn't talk about.
1) If you really want to use B4 front wheels, you need to use B4 front suspension components. You can use original RC10 stuff, but you're going to come up much shorter trying to match the front track with a B4. Of course the easiest way to use 2.2 wheels is to just switch to B3 wheels/tires and axles like we've all discussed in countless threads. I've measured a B4 and this car and the width (front & rear) is about 4mm more to the B4. It's really hard to see with the naked eye.
2) The B4 topshaft is significantly longer than the original RC10. I thought I would have to use an RPM hydradrive gear cover, but I realized I could use the stock cover and just use the RPM adjustment cap. Works perfect. Plus, the caps are easy to get as it's the same one RPM uses on all their gearcovers.
3) You need to use travel limiters in the front shocks.
4) The shorter rear shocks are needed because they need to mount further inboard to provide clearance for the B4 rear tires. Normal 1.32 rear shocks are too long.
Ok, I have a stock steering setup but I plan on changing that using the parts from the steering thread (B3 & truck parts). I think I'm going to top it off with a Protech 1 body. I've actually cut up a beater Viper body to see how it looks but I didn't take pictures of that.
Here are the parts I used:
2700 Dynotech rear suspension arms
2701 Dynotech front suspension arms
3305 Rulux front wheel
3306 Rulux rear wheel
9756 Rear B44 MIP CVD
70272 RPM rear carriers w/ 3/16 x 1/2 bearings
9601 B4 topshaft
9603 B4 slipper pads
9651 Spur gear
8003 RPM "Worlds" shock tower
7305 Truck nose plate
7315 Nose brace tubes
7207 Truck front bulkhead
9604 Slipper hub
9605 Slipper spring
9581 B4 Steering block
9580 B4 Caster block 25 degree
9613 Front axle
9622 Hinge pins
7774 New GT bumper
So, here we go:

looking good richie.
as for the front end, you can use the wide gt front axles to gain back the lost trackwidth because of the negative offset in the b4 front rims. the wide axles are 4mm longer, and i believe that's the offset difference between b4 rim and say... a tq rim.

The first race? Not sure. I need to get some electronics in for it's shakedown run.
I'm going to leave the width the way it is. I honestly cannot see the 4mm difference. If it handles like crap, then I'll make some changes. Of course, I drive like crap too.

i was talking about using the gt axles on the old rc10 steering knuckle/castor block setup. i don't believe there's an issue if your using the b4 parts.

Re: RichieRich's still old but newer RC10
actually, you almost have to use the gt axles with the old rc10 parts. with the standard axles, the rim would rub on the front side of the arm during compression before the steering would get to full lock. the wide axles solved 2 problems, no rubbing, and corrected the track width.

looks great man. and thanks for posting the parts list all in one spot. im in the process of building one of these for the wife to run when she can make it out to the track with me.
btw you have "7305 Truck nose plate" listed twice. only looks like you used one to me

Looks great Richie!! Nice idea about combining parts from the B4, I like the wheel and tire combo too. What body you going to run on it?

There's another one there to reinforce the front. It's hard to see in the pics...mostly because it's invisible.LowClassCC wrote:looks great man. and thanks for posting the parts list all in one spot. im in the process of building one of these for the wife to run when she can make it out to the track with me.

Re: RichieRich's still old but newer RC10
I'm going to use a ProTech I. I actually have an old Viper body on it now just to see what it looks like. It's actually the body in my avatar. (Don't worry, I still have the RC10 in my avatar, but with a slightly different body.)RC Chick wrote:Looks great Richie!! I picked up a wing today and the parts for the steering modification.

Re: RichieRich's still old but newer RC10
Hey guys. I updated the first picture on the top post in this thread. I cut and trimmed a viper body this weekend. I think it looks good. I wanted to use a Protech I but it's a little too narrow in the rear and wasn't giving me the look I wanted.

A man after my own heart.
I haven't purchased them yet, but I plan to pick up a couple sets of those arms. one set to complete an RPM car i have, and the other to use in my Vintage racer. Im going for a "worlds" look.
Nice!

What about the track width for the rear since you are using the B4 wheels? Are they simialr to the B4 or the stock? Actually i am really interested to build a similar one like yours with all my spares.
