I snagged this from the thread entitled So Who Else Here Has ... Because it got me to thinking ...
a01butal wrote:I know Jim(rcvoltar) personally and have bought quite a bit from him, he gets a lot of stuff from Craigslist and he has ads at the hobby shops down here in Joliet. He buys lots all the time, don't know what he pays but it's worth a try.
I was bored last night and did a search for RC's on my local Craigslist. The search brought up an RC10 gold pan in San Jose for $200, not my area, but I know at least one member here that is in San Jose. This brings me to my question, is anyone interested in CL listings, regardless of location, if there is another member there willing to be the local go-between?

Where would we post such listings here on the 10Talk site? And is there anything in particular that should be included when we make a posting of a local "find"? I also believe that there is a way for anyone to do a global search of CL (nation wide ), if anyone is interested in searching that for themselves, then asking members to help with the transaction. It wouldn't be hard for me to find the info on how to do global searches.

I told you it wouldn't be hard for me to find the global search term ...

Does this mean that there might be some interest here?

Let me just say that if anyone needs anything in Evansville, IN I'm your man. It's pretty much the Wall street of r/c. Seriously though, I would be down for this. :)

If anything, I bet that RC10 is hot. Craigslist is full of stolen propertly.

If you know that to be true, then don't buy it. I agree that you don't want to support thieves, but can you be certain that a good number of the individuals on SleazeBay aren't equally nefarious? Is buying from CL any different from SleazeBay or a garage sale? If anything, you're safer dealing face to face with an individual than you are through the mask and illusion of safety of any online auction site.

I'm not suggesting that anyone contact an individual from outside their area to make a trade UNLESS they've got someone willing to check out the merchandise first. What I am suggesting is that through the use of CL and our network of online friends that span the globe, we may be able to find interesting things worth pursuing and that our friends who are local to the merchandise might be willing to make purchases or act as an intermediary on our behalf.

Hey Halg! Did you take a serious pill last night? It's all a gamble, I know that. And if that RC10 was local for me, I might take a look.

I think your idea is great. I was trying to throw in my lighthearted 2 pesos. I didn't mean to be a negative nancy or debbie downer...wait, is there a male form of these types?

I Agree that we should have an area under BST for Craigslist. I have already found quite a few items in our so cal area. And I have actually met up with a few sellers, all of whom were honest folks. (again, so far..)

I check craigslist all the time. In another post, I had put up a local sale, a Thunder Tiger Challenger 1/8 Scale from 83. Its about 30 miles from me. Does anyone want it?

i got to head out to the airport right now... but us mods will get together and see about either incorporating a craigslist section in the bst or just adding it to the existing ebay section or whatever.

i'm all for it if you guys are. i dont usually see alot of listings in my area, but i'm sure there are some sweet deals out there.

That RC10 is in my hometown, probably less than 7 miles from me. IMHO it's overpriced. That thing is worth $70 on a good day.

I't been hit and miss for me on Craigslist. I bought a new built team car for $40 but I also spent another $350 with him buying two complete brushless 18R's
