Re: XL/XLS CAT or Original CAT SWB

Hi, first test run at the park today ! Fun to drive this CAT after a 34 years nap, so much nostalgia... https://i.ibb.co/xsRjpm5/IMG-9178.jpg https://i.ibb.co/FgQsdF6/IMG-9181.png https://i.ibb.co/W5gcXQ4/IMG-9186.png https://i.ibb.co/Zg7vBKm/IMG-9185.png https://i.ibb.co/ggJM5VN/IMG-9183.png https:...

Re: XL/XLS CAT or Original CAT SWB

A quick update on the XLS rebuild progress : - foam added to top and bottom belt covers, - custom handmade lipo shorty holder, - wishbones and upperlink axles blocked with clips in front and bending+collar at rear, - trial of shock springs more adapted to car weight with lipo, - steering servo insta...

Re: Advice on CAT XLS assembly tips and brushed motor question

Are you keeping your transmission stock? And what pinion gear are you planning for the 16T motor? Thanks. Hi, Yes stock transmission for now, maybe pro transmission if I install a BL motor later on and then reuse the stock transmission to rebuild the SWB version I'm now looking parts for. My pinion...

Re: Advice on CAT XLS assembly tips and brushed motor question

Hi, The integrator is what makes this car unique. It is the perfect example of overengineering and the car is easier to setup and run without. But this setup is part of its british charm. I think it will resist a brushed 16T, I plan to run mine with one too. Pay attention to diff and integrator wash...

Re: XL/XLS CAT or Original CAT SWB

Wow, what a pain! Sorry for your troubles. The eccentrics were revised to ease assembly - not a bad thing, that's for sure. I'd reckon that the front diff was a bit of an afterthought. The original car came with a spool and one-ways so when they added the diff, the case halves required revision. I ...

Re: XL/XLS CAT or Original CAT SWB

Hi, This "spot the difference" game between Original SWB and CAT XLS is really fun. I ordered and received rereleased replacement parts to restore the integrator : 51T Rear Side Pulleys (part# U7204) and Thrust Race (part# U7216) naively thinking they will fit. I tried to mount the integra...

Re: XL/XLS CAT or Original CAT SWB

A little time today to dissect the Cat guts ! Good news rust is really minimal and balls and washers are in very good shape and reusable. But I did a sad discovery... Its integrator is .. disintegrated ! I had completly forget that 30 years ago I transformed this integrator into a normal rear differ...

Thank you. So a SWB could almost be done, the last missing part of the puzzle would be the T031 or is it T0...

Re: XL/XLS CAT or Original CAT SWB

Thanks Doug,

Good to know for the SWB shell.
The hardest to find missing parts for me doing a SWB are the T515 font one way joint and the short belt.

Re: XL/XLS CAT or Original CAT SWB

Thanks guys, I want it to be a runner, so I think I'll go for the XLS because I already have most of the parts. For the SWB I do not have the short belt, front joints, bodyshell, bottom shell, top chassis plate, grey front bumper and they are very hard to find. Any tip for gently removing the light ...

XL/XLS CAT or Original CAT SWB

Hi, I want to rebuild and run my old Schumacher CAT from 1986, as left for the last 30 years on a shelf. This was one of the first kit imported in France, with short wheel base, I later convert it to an XL/XLS hybrid with long chassis, widened front and rear end with spacers but original one way (no...

Re: Hi from South of France !

Welcome! Excellent choice the Cat, it was hard to find and expensive.... but it was winning every single race i have been to! Especially indoor. Didnt touch any RC for 30 years also... recently bought a Ultima RB6, restored an Optima Mid this year, and i am trying to bring my Alien back from the de...

Hi from South of France !

Hi, Was in the hobby for few years in my childhood, my first car was a Marui Hunter... My last car was one of the first Schumacher CAT imported in France and later upgraded to an XL/XLS CAT. I kept the Schumacher on a shelf and each time I moved house I could not convince myself to give it away, I'm...
