Re: Bored? Come To The Chit / Chat Thread
So, I was asking for some more pics for a FBMP ad because my old eyes couldn't see exactly what this vehicle was. I was out and about and couldn't do any research, so I asked the seller for some better pics. They just resent me the ones that were in the ad, which were worthless. So, this is the onl...

Re: Shock ID help: Equalizer shocks?
Those do looks like Kyosho shocks. Equaliser shocks are a bit of a disaster to identify properly because Kyosho produced variants of these shocks under the same part numbers. So it would completely depend on when they were bought. The "H" denotes hard anodized shock bodies, AFAIK, and they...

Re: Original Optima Mid parts
Usually we use electronic speed controls these days, as the mechanical ones tend to wear out (as you've noticed). Considering a cheap brushed ESC such as the basic Tamiya ones can be found for as little as 20-30 bucks, why bother tracking down a mechanical speed control part that has no value at all...

The graphite chassis with the two "X"-shaped cutouts is also a Trinity chassis (EV-10SS, I think).LosiRacer1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 2:10 pm Never did any dirt oval racing, anyone have a guess what the roller is on the left?
Thanks for the help.

I then added the alloy side guards: IMG_2638.jpg IMG_2640.jpg I spent some of the time I was waiting for the additional parts on decorating the body. I didn't go for box art: IMG_2634.jpg IMG_2635.jpg IMG_2637.jpg IMG_2636.jpg I used some bottles Pactra and Tamiya lexan paints on the interior, and d...

Parts needed for the front when using universals (note: universal spacer shown in wrong location, see later): IMG_2624.jpg Assembled front end: IMG_2625.jpg IMG_2626.jpg But! IMG_2627.jpg The universals come with a spacer. According to Kyosho, on the Optima and Javelin (but not Turbo Optima) this sp...

Re: Javelin rere build
The last thing I did on the day of the last update was to get started with the shocks: IMG_2616.jpg IMG_2617.jpg IMG_2618.jpg I'm not very fond of the updated design on these, particularly the way the o-rings are "held" into the bottom cartridge. On most of Kyosho's other modern shock desi...

I started by assembling the shock tower and installing the upper links: IMG_2607.jpg I then followed this by installing the rear swing bar, and assembling the swing bar links: IMG_2608.jpg One bad bit is that the rear swing bar attaches using one of the holes meant for the rear cage. I will need to ...

This was the point where I concluded carbon parts were a waste on this car, old vs. new front shock tower: IMG_2596.jpg IMG_2597.jpg IMG_2599.jpg The holes with which the part attaches to the chassis are the same, but the shock mount holes are located differently. Also, the new shock tower is much t...

So laying aside the front end for the moment, I continued with other tasks. First up was the assembly of the body: IMG_2592.jpg IMG_2593.jpg IMG_2594.jpg IMG_2595.jpg I really wish they had used tapping screws for the frame connections, as getting the screws to bite into the plastic was really hard....

Re: Javelin rere build
So the c-hubs on these reissues use a bushing between the screws that go into the front upright and the c-hub. These have much more play than the vintage parts where there is no bushing. Is this normal?

Re: Javelin rere build
Next step: IMG_2584.jpg IMG_2585.jpg I had read that putting together the steering link could shatter the part. However, there's a trick to get this together properly. All of Kyosho's open ball cups basically have one side that's a little wider than the other one, typically the bottom. If you press ...

Re: Javelin rere build
I'm curious to see if they made something at the step 9 when you mount the front underguard. Either the holes on OT205.1 were too short for both Javelin and Turbo Optima or the 2 screws OT242.c were too long (nb: on the optional Hard Aluminium part, screws are 8 mm long) Nope. The instructions stil...

Then I continued with the motor plate. The optional finned motor plate next to a vintage one: IMG_2580.jpg Basically there are very few differences regarding the holes, except for the new parts having countersunk holes and the holes for the motor being slightly different. The optional motorplate is ...
