Old school guy checking in!

Greetings all! Like so many here, I started my RC journey in the late 70's with a Tamiya Lotus 79 John Player Special pan car, was into RC cars and boats big time back in the 80's and early 90's with several scale model boats and countless on road and off road vehicles, and even a Tamiya King Tiger ...

Re: Old school guy checking in!

More pictures? No problem! Well, small problem. Kind of annoying that the forum software will only accept small pictures, so I have to resize everything. Another fact of technology progressing- all new cellphones take MASSIVE sized pictures, even on their smallest settings. Oh well... Anyways, here ...

Re: First RC tools

That's high end stuff right there! My first collection of RC tools was just an oddball collection of kit included Allen keys, stamped steel spanners and Tamiya socket tools, along with the household kitchen drawer Phillips screwdriver and pliers. I've evolved just a bit since those days however!

Re: TC3 and TC4

Well, here we are another three years down the road since the last post. I just finished a total overhaul of my TC3 and nearly all of the parts I wanted to replace are discontinued by AE. eBay had some of them but some are simply NLA. So I would say that now, eleven years after this thread was start...

Re: Who needs LiPo?!

That's a great idea! I hadn't even thought of drilling and tapping new holes offset from the original location. I already have an M3 tap too, so my net cost would be ZERO! Probably the best and least expensive solution. I think I'll try this and report back when done.

Re: Who needs LiPo?!

So finally got some time to try and repair my son's Team Orion brushless motor with the stripped mounting holes. I took some pictures this time! So it turns out that two of the four provided mounting holes are stripped, and they are next to each other, so can't just turn the motor 90 degrees and use...

Re: TC3 vs. newer TC5/6/7 or others

I remember Tekin from back in the day but have never used their products before. So I went to their website and was surprised to find they had gone out of business years ago, only to be bought and resurrected by an American family who now run it as a family business. And they are still in the USA an...

Re: Ultrasonic cleaner

I have a small one that a friend gave me. It's all stainless steel with a variety of baskets and trays. I have never cleaned anything directly in it however. I always put my parts in a ziploc bag, toss in a little Purple Power degreaser and the rest water. Then the bag goes in the ultrasonic cleaner...

Re: TC3 composite oudrive wear. Alternatives?

Cruising around eBay, I happened to find a brand new set (both front and rear) of factory 3908 outdrives for a very reasonable price. Bought them in a heartbeat! So that will definitely buy me some time and I'll install these the next time I have the car opened up for maintenance or repair. Associat...

Re: TC3. Too much power?

I stumbled across a brand new set of 3908 outdrives (both front and rear) for a very reasonable price so snagged them! That should buy me some time in the wear department. I'll take a close look at how the CV axle pins are wearing when I rebuild the differentials next time. If they are in good shape...

Re: Futaba FM/PCM 27 MHz and 75 MHz

There are many more 75MHz frequencies available than 27MHz, which I think there are only six frequencies in the USA. Regarding your TX module switching from 27 to 75MHz, I'm not sure that's possible. But I'd like to know too because I have a PCM1024 FM Futaba that has the module. But I was always un...
